Lancôme is a French luxury perfumes and cosmetics house that just launched their makeup and cosmetics segment in Sri Lanka.
At a dinner held at the Water’s Edge on October 7, Lancôme partnered up with Exclusive Lines (Pvt) Ltd to launch Lancôme cosmetics to the Sri Lankan consumers.
Founded in 1935 by Armand Petitjean in France, the company is known worldwide for their luxury makeup and perfumes. At the launch, Jerome Georges-Vivien, Zone Director New Markets for Lancôme described the brand as ‘so chic and French’. Lancôme has always been a symbol of emotions and happiness, with 40% of their products achieving the number 1 status in Europe and 30% in Asia. Their perfume has gained the company global recognition and prestige, with their latest release ‘La vie est belle’ ranking number 3 worldwide in 2014.
Whilst the perfume range has always been in the Sri Lankan market, the launch of Lancôme allows Sri Lankans to have access to all Lancôme products; their award winning anti-aging foundation Teint Miracle, Hypnôse mascara and their wide range of lipsticks and eye shadow palettes amongst others.

As the distributing partner, Director Hiru Surtani of Exclusive Lines expressed his views on their partnership with Lancôme “I’m confident that the makeup products will do very well in Sri Lanka. Many people have come to our store and requested Lancôme make up so I’m sure the products will be successful,”
With two of their perfumes ranking in the top 10 worldwide, we caught up with Jerome to ask him for some advice on perfume use.
What’s the most important thing you have to know about perfume?
I think it’s very important not to put too much. It’s not necessary for you to spray yourself everywhere. There are some key points that you should focus on and that’s it.
What exactly are these key points?
Focus on the warm areas of your body: the inside of your wrists, under your earlobes and behind your knees. You can spray yourself two or three times on these areas.
Why is it important to wear perfume?
Well, it’s the notion of having a specific smell on the skin.
Should a person stick to one specific perfume or should they always explore and change?
It’s definitely a personal choice. Some people use the same perfume for about 35 years while some want to explore. Nothing wrong with either.
When buying perfume, what should you be aware of?
Today the big houses are doing a great job but Lancôme has a twist to our products and we have history. We have great experience, good ingredients and research. It’s really a fantastic set up. But you have to know that it’s not a question of brand – it’s about buying a perfume that suits you. It’s about selecting a perfume and asking yourself ‘are you happy?’
