Jude Gayantha Perera of Kiito Bespoke shared his thoughts on clothing and footwear essentials you should own, the importance of the perfect fit and more.
How important is choosing the best fit?
Each man has a style and fit he is most comfortable with, but there is also a style and fit he looks his best. Choosing which one to go with is what separates boys from the men. I rarely buy anything I didn't try on to make sure.
What are essential accessories?
It's hard to take a man seriously if he doesn't have a watch he brought himself on his hand, and a smart phone in his pocket. But currently, bead stacks and pocket squares have also been trending, and these are all the perfect accessories for KIITO BESPOKE suits.
What, in your opinion, are the casual wear wardrobe staples?
My go-to would be a plain coloured polo neck t-shirt or short-sleeved shirt in a tropical print. A decent pair of loafers that go with fitted shorts or linen pants is also a must. However, I can't imagine life or my weekends without a pair of well fitted jeans with anything.
What are footwear essentials every man should own?
Every man should own a pair of formal black shoes, a dark coloured pair of high top trainers, brown strappy leather sandals, and your choice of loafers and boat shoes in any style and color to match your wardrobe.
Is it important to follow trends?
I remember seeing a post on Facebook that said trendy is one short step from tacky; and with that being said, trust no one but your instincts. Trends may come and go, but your mirror rarely lies to you.
Is owning at least one item with a brand name a must?
If you're a Sri Lankan, own Sri Lankan brands first. Brands have earned their right to carry a price with so many zeros at it's end, I rather own the original, if not.. not at all. I own one or two things because they've earned the right to be in my wardrobe by durability and quality I haven't seen anywhere else for a better price; something KIITO Bespoke always stands for.
Should a man cultivate his "image"?
I believe in dressing for success. Having a great image on the outside, comes from the inside, and no amount of great clothes - even if they were tailored - can hide the real image for long. But what if dressing well became a tool for getting everything you want in life? Use your image to your advantage!
Choosing the perfect trousers?
Unless you're a man who fits the perfect height and weight of your Body Mass Index, you'll rarely find a pair of trousers that are perfect. Perfection comes in a tailor-made experience of you selecting every option available such as material, button stitch and zip quite like visiting KIITO BESPOKE.
What are the best overall items to own based on the Sri Lankan climate?
- A solid black umbrella with a sturdy handle that wasn't made in China.
- Shoes that have rubber soles with a good grip (you'd be surprised to find you get dress shoes with a rubber sole now too) for our roads or rainy days.
- Men's no show socks (hard to find locally / can buy online) are amazing when it's raining or hot and humid.
- A small deo roll on or spray (you know why).
