As a modern day fashion model, be honest with us. Can you make enough money working as a fashion model in Sri Lanka?
Well to be honest our industry is very small and now there's huge competition. It is not really enough to maintain ourselves as models. Once we become famous we have to maintain ourselves as models. You always have to be outstanding and outshining.
Your honest view about the SL fashion industry?
We need to improve the industry in Sri Lanka a lot in so many ways. When we compare ourselves to India and UK we realise we have so much to do to catch up. In countries like those, it's all about fashion. There’s is a certain height required for a catwalk model. And they are very strict about those standards. Also models are categorised as fashion models, commercial models etc.
They have so many ways to look for the right talent and the unique faces. But in Sri Lanka it’s all about favours. In those countries designers will produce shows to sell their collections but here, modelling is done for entertainment.
Any restrictions from your home front?
Yes actually there was a huge restriction from my father. He didn't like me being a model because of the rumours he’d heard. But my mom helped. I somehow made him trust in me and change his perception about the industry.
Do you think your exotic looks have raised you to a certain level in the industry?
Yes I do.
Why do I only see you in Western bridal shoots?
Well everyone sees me as a Western model. I believe that is the reason you always see me as a Western bridal model. But then again I’m a model who would love to be dressed in many ways. So I have no limits..
