Indu Dharmasena is at it again and this time he’s all out to bring some memories back (well not literarily for you and me, but for the cast).
Originally written by Indu in 1993 “Just Like Old Times" is a romantic comedy that will have you in fits of laughter.
Indu says the play has been altered a little from its original form and will feature technology such as email, and phones instead of the traditional letters that the postman would carry around on his bike ringing that darn bell of his!
For those of you, who want a little idea about the plot, here goes.
Edward Karunaratne, the founder of the Karunaratne Business Empire knows his days on earth are coming to an end and wants to make sure that his Organization doesn’t die with him. He wants to leave the control in safe hands, in the hands of his protégée Rahul who is the Managing Director of the Karunaratne Organization. But the sole heir to his fortune is his granddaughter Sunila, and unfortunately Rahul happens to be her ex-husband. Since their divorce Sunila and Rahul avoid each other and if they do meet, they act like polite strangers.
So when Edward’s close friend and Physician, Dr. Sivasundaram summons the two of them to the Karunaratne ancestral home to sort out the will, they are forced to meet again. They start off on a wrong footing as Sunila arrives with Cecil who happens to be one of her many admires whom Rahul does not approve. The constant presence of the eccentric neighbour Nirosha who has always had a crush on Rahul adds fuel to the fire. The arrival of Rahul’s attractive secretary Theruni simple makes all hell break loose.
The cast comprises Indu, Abbas, Sanwada, Wasaam, Ishkey, Krys, Sanju and Danu.
Put together a divorced couple, a dying grandfather, a last will, a persistent suitor, an eccentric neighbour, an attractive secretary combined with the family doctor and a loyal man servant and you are set for an evening of light entertainment!
Speaking to Daily Mirror Life on her experience working with the cast, an enthusiastic Krys says, “Working with the cast is really wonderful, we have worked with each other before and that helps us relate to each other.”
Abbas on the other hand speaking on an entirely different topic said, “What is interesting about the play is that it’s based on something very real people have gone through in their lives and Colombo is in for a real treat when the show goes on board.”
“Just Like Old Times!” will be staged at the Lionel Wendt on 20, 21 & 22 July, at 7.30pm.
Tickets priced at 1000/-, 800/-. 600/- and balcony 350/- (unreserved) are now available at the Lionel Wendt.
