Big Match season gets fevers rising!
Big match fever is in the air and it is the time when you will see flags of various schools fluttering as youngsters returning from school proudly wave their flags out the windows of the vehicles that they are traveling in.
Coming up this weekend is a match that many look forward to when St. Joseph’s College and St. Peter’s College clash at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium in Wanathamulla.
And next weekend brings the most looked forward to event in the schools' calendar when the Royalists take on the Thomians at the SSC.
The 84th Battle of Maroons cricket encounter between Ananda and Nalanda College will take place at the SSC Grounds on March 2 and 3, 2013. The One Day Encounter is on 10th March at the SSC.
The Big Match cricket between Mahanama and D.S Senanayake College will take place at the P. Saravanamuttu Ground on March 22 and 23, 2013. The One Day Encounter is on 30th March at SSC Ground Colombo.
The 'Battle of the Golden Lions' between Rahula College Matara, and Dharmapala College, Pannipitiya ended in a draw at the De Soysa Cricket Stadium, Moratuwa over the weekend.

Moving to a slightly different note, Life Online spoke to some of those who prefer to stay in the stands during the matches and asked them what it was like to be a part of the big match fever.
We were quite surprised by some of the answers. However all the girls we spoke to responded as we predicted.

The one day you would not wanna be absent for an “official” school function. You can make a sick call for sports meet, prize giving, swimming meet but when it comes to big match the sick day is always the day after.

Oh boy big match season… Teachers screaming “The boys are coming in” and protecting us! Good times. Once, I swear there were more than two schools inside my school. There were more than two different types of flags!
