Iridescence is a combination of a metallic effect with a rainbow that forms to bring out a kaleidoscope of colour incorporated into a shiny surface. This trend is a textile designer’s favourite as it mixes colour bringing out luminosity probably like a shiny disco ball.
This trend is also known as mermaid, dragonfly, oil slick and sometimes even holographic. But unlike sliver holographic shades that are sure to make you look like either Tin Man from Wizard of Oz or a shiny disco ball, true iridescent pieces have blue, purple and green tones.
The effect is edgier and perfect for a night outing and not very suitable as day wear as others would require sun glasses to look at the wearer especially on a sunny day.
For a major impact, slip on a holographic dress or skirt. For a more subdued effect, grip an iridescent clutch or even shoes.
The best way to wear this holographic iridescent trend is against solid colors such as black or white as it allows the rainbow colors to completely shine through. Alternatively, you could opt for a deep indigo and rich blue which makes a good canvas to offset the iridescent colors.
You might consider that you have to be quite bold to pull off this trend, which has a very futuristic and sci-fi effect to it, but if you master the correct amounts of this holographic effect to be used in your attire with the correct solid colour you are definitely good to go!
