I hope our readers believe me when I say she looks fabulous in front of the camera!
Young Diana Yureni a.k.a. Didi took Sri Lanka to the heart of France by winning Miss Talent 2012 and Miss Elegant 2012 at Miss Sri Lanka of France 2012.
I started off by asking her what her life motto was and here is what she had to say
“The longer I live, the more I realise the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church, a home.. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you.. We are in charge of our Attitudes. To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment, be yourself!”
Here is Diana Yureni, in conversation with Life Online.
Winning Miss Sri Lanka of France, how was your experience?
Well, Miss Sri Lanka of France 2012 was organised by an association that I know. In the beginning I was not that interested about it but lots of people asked me to do it (my family, friends and even people I don't know). So, I thought about it a lot and decided to apply. I felt lots of competition. We all contest because we have a chance to win but my goal was not to be the winner, I wanted to do my best, to show what I am able to do. Wining this contest was just a little wish.
I did so much for this contest because I always want to do my best when I do something. I won the title of Miss TALENT 2012: My passion, my talent has always been dancing so I chose dancing for the talent contest. I thought a lot about it before creating the choreography, the costumes etc.. I wanted to do a Kandyan traditional dance and also a Bollywood one so the costumes had to be modernised. I chose modern Kandyan music (Assaddhrusha) and a Tamil song as we are Sri Lankan and not only Sinhalese.
I also got the title of Miss ELEGANT 2012 by people's votes. That was the most beautiful moment because I felt like there were lots of people with me and to be honest I knew that lots of people were with me as they were always supporting me (calling me, messaging me or encouraging me when they met me).
Anyway, I must say that I am proud of myself because I was honest all along the contest.
In modelling, what do you want to keep away from and why?
I do photoshoots / modelling because I like to, I don't want to make it my profession. I did some fashion shows but only in Sri Lanka during my holidays because in France I don't have much time even if I’ve got some good opportunities to.
Well, in Sri Lanka we have that problem of nudity even if it is for arts, lingerie etc.. due to our culture that we want to maintain. Sometimes the perceived relationship between nudity and sexuality is a source of tension for the subject.
Certainly, art can depict the human form without the intent of portraying sexuality but even if that intent is absent, both artist and subject are likely aware that someone might perceive the images they create as being sexual in nature.
And it’s important to remember that women’s views about posing nude are as varied as their personalities and the experiences that they had. Some women are strongly opposed to the idea of being photographed nude, while others welcome the opportunity.
I think that if someone is uncomfortable with their body or have been trained that nudity is wrong, they will be opposed to posing nude in front of a camera. That's their choice!
Any regrets in life so far?
I don't regret anything in my life, even though it has been full of pain and hurt. Whether it is making a bad choice, deciding to do something I shouldn't have, saying the wrong thing or not doing something I should have done.. Because all of these things have given me the knowledge I have today and helped make me who I am today. Never regret your past!
Some say “every girl wants to be a model nowadays.” What’s your view on that?
Well, that's true but it's not only about modelling, there are so many singers who are doing music videos just to get the attention that they need. They see the glamorous life advertised on the red carpet, the beauty, fame, money, status.. But it's not wrong to be a model, if you love it, if you have what a real model should have then you have to go for it!
Do you think you’ve achieved enough in life and what are your future plans?
Oh no, let’s see what the future holds!
