‘Flower Power’ was a generic term given for the life style in the 1960s and, the loopy 1960s daisy was quite a prominent design used in many garments at that time. However this year this loopy daisy was given an upgrade in the fashion industry with more of an abstract variety.
Prada worked the flower power on black satin and taffeta, by using a single white flower on the front or perhaps two or three papery white appliqués. This design was a constant motif in the collection, by collaborating it with the Japanese influence. These flowers were also dotted across bags and glasses frames, appliqued onto clothes and even woven into furs giving that origami effect. The repeated use of the flower shapes reflected an obsessive interest for Japanese sophistication, which one would say has clearly worked for the fashion house and which has become quite popular.
At Versus, the daisy appeared as a repeat pattern with a modern take on print, but still sticking to the hippy look with the A-line dresses and the 60s’ glam.
Sicilian holiday was the theme by Dolce & Gabbana for spring/ summer 2013, and the collection included a standout stripy frock decorated with handcrafted flowers that looked like traditional festival corsages, which does not sound or feel like the 1960s but the collaboration of flowers gives a feel of what the designers intended with their collection, and that being the combination of an old trend 60s trend with the customary attire of Sicily.
The influence of flower power is making a big come back this year clearly and the prediction is that it is here to stay! well at least for this year.
