Innovative designer Indeevari Yapa Abeywardena has launched two main collections  and a mini collection to celebrate the  festive season . The “Lace my love” collection consists mainly of long flowing evening dresses along with some shorter length dresses.

Inspired by romance and timeless elegance , the Lace my Love collection comprises of  rich vibrant colours such as red, fuschia and shades of brown the dresses are embellished with delicate lace cut outs and panels which bring an air of understated glamour to her “Lace my Love” collection.

Her second collection is inspired by the Baroque artistic style. Keeping in mind the  party season, Indi has used a range of luxurious fabrics which include  brocades, pure silks and chiffon for fluidity.

For her Baroque inspired collection Indi has created some some unusual ensembles which are fashion forward and very eye catching. High necklines, tulip hems and semi structured party dresses form the base of her Baroque collection.

Incidental to the two main collections Indi has also extended her collection of Batik ensembles which she first launched at the CFW 2013 Resortwear show to rave reviews. “I am extremely fond of batik so I have added a few more styles to my collection.

I have kept the designs simple as I wanted it to be all about Batik and the technique I used. My batik range comprises of maxi dresses, playsuits, jumpsuits and crop tops” said Indi.

Speaking on her love for batik Indi says “ All the batik designs are my original designs. It is the craftsmanship that fascinates me. I grew up watching how its made as my grandmother owns a batik plant and I have always loved the technique and creativity Batik yields.

My batik designs are brought to life by the magical hands behind Lehka Batik plant which is a business owned by my family”

Not content to rest on her laurels, Indi has identified the potential of the sari market in Sri Lanka and embarked on a sari range too. “I love saris, it is one of the most flattering silhouettes you can find.

As a Sri Lankan designer I have always had an innate desire to design saris. I have also been designing saris with a modern twist for clients which are one off pieces says Indi.

Predicting trends for 2014 Indi says “ Whites will be a hit, along with plain clean silhouettes. I also think lots of embellishments with a 3D appearance will make its mark. Florals, Metalics and fringes are also set to make a comeback”
