Every year, Pantone a US based Company best known for its Pantone Matching System, which assists to match colours using its colour coding, carries out a poll in a European capital and determines the hue, which will be referred to as the Colour of the Year.
For 2013, the Pantone has bestowed the distinction of Colour of the Year on the shade its database identifies as 17-5641, which is Emerald Green. The reason behind choosing this colour had been because, green reflects the green movement focussed on protecting the environment. Whilst it is also a colour that has a relaxing effect on the body. This colour further represents sophistication, luxury, growth, clarity, beauty, renewal, rejuvenation and it also enhances the sense of well-being.
Emerald is a very forgiving and flattering colour to most since it brings out a sense of class and elegance to the wearer. The colour need not be limited to outfits since the colour can be associated with makeup as well.
When pairing the colour emerald, the safest option is to go with yellows, pinks, shades of light reds and blues. Since emerald green is already a bold colour, a pair of shoes in neutrals colours such as beige, black, white, grey or even a darker shade of green would go quite well, since these colours will make your emerald green attire stand out more. A pair of peep-toe heels in a champagne colour, or even delicate strappy sandals in silver dull gold would work very well.
Attention can be drawn to an emerald garment by adopting the monochromatic look by replacing complementary colours by wearing accessories in different shades of green. However need to keep in mind that lighter shades of colour draw more attention than darker shades, for example jade jewellery will highlight your face, while shoes in a rich, deep green will draw more attention to your upper body and facial area.
So why not try out the Colour of the Year keeping in mind the above and share with us your reviews on this year’s hue.
