As part of its new designer development programme, HSBC CFW 2012 will be launching the ‘Bright Spark’ Fringe Fashion Show starting this year. This comes on the heal of the introduction of the ‘Gen-Next’Award that was introduced at last year’s HSBC Colombo Fashion Week.
“We needed a formal system to unearth new potential designers from schools and other avenues and hence following the Gen-Next award which was introduced last year, this year we start the ‘Bright Spark’ shows which is a fringe event to showcase the bright sparks in the fashion schools in Sri Lanka. The aim is to bridge the gap for students before they graduate to the main CFW platform. A stepping stone,” says Ajai Singh, President Colombo Fashion Week
The Fringe Shows will be at 4 pm at the Tea Lounge- Hilton Colombo on Feb 24, 25 and 26. The main shows will start at 7.30pm.
The main aim of the Fringe Fashion Show is to provide a platform for young upcoming local designer to showcase their designs at bigger events.
The young designers - products of Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology, Academy of Design and the University of Moratuwa will showcase at the Tea Lounge- Hilton Colombo.
The young designers include Suzette Schokman, Sonali Kaushala Wanigasurya, Kaushini Ranaweera, Nayana Weliwette, Sajeenali Wijayasundara , Udani Nilaweera , NavodaThenuwara,Shamara Alles, Akhila Karunaratne and Amarsha De Silva from Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT), Nithya and Lonall from the Academy of Design (AOD) and Lesha S Hettigama and W.K.Mihiri Bandumali from the Universariy of Moratuwa.
The Gen-Next award will be given to a young designer who will be selected by a panel including local and international designers. Last year Dimuthu Sahabandu was selected as the award winner.
