Purnima Abeyratne is the designer of the label ‘Inspirations’. She’s been in the design industry for over 26 years and is specially known for her bridal wear. So who better to talk homecoming attire?
Does homecoming attire differ from culture to culture?
Yes it differs! It will depend on whether the bride will be wearing a Kandyan, Indian saree, a dress, lehenga or choli.
What are the ‘must haves’ when designing homecoming attire?
So in my opinion there are 3 absolute must haves,
1. The outfit makes you look the best
2. Comfortable shoes
3. Hair and makeup and a bouquet to suit the outfit
What colours are usually used and why?
Usually red, orange, magenta and pink. I think the colour of your homecoming attire should be picked according to your skin colour and the shape of the body.
What’s the one thing every bride should know when picking out their homecoming attire?
The outfit should suit the function, skin colour, personality, and also the body shape of the bride. Also the outfit definitely needs to be taken into consideration whether it’s a morning or evening function and the place where it is held.
