Hiran Yattowita– the HSBC CFW Face of 2013
Hiran Yattowita speaks to Daily Mirror Life Online post winning the title of HSCBC CFW Male Face of the Year 2013. Hiran was born in Colombo, and grew up with an elder brother and one younger sister and started off his career initially as a System Administrator. Hiran stumbled upon a career in modelling when he went for a party and met Paul James and he coerced Hiran to enter the world of modelling. Soon after, Hiran followed a course at The Model Network and there onwards he began his modelling career. Thereafter Hiran met Brian Kerkoven – Colombo’s hottest Model Coordinator cum Designer who offered Hiran an opportunity to work on bigger shows. Hiran has worked with top designers in Sri Lanka and an array of international designers too.
Some of the highlights in his career include the IIFA Fashion show in 2010 where he walked the ramp with Bollywood stars such as Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Vivek Oberoi, Dino Morea, Bipasha Basu etc; modelling for famous Indian designers like Manish Malhotra and Rocky S. Hiran was also chosen as the Best Male Model in 2012 and went to Spain for Best Male Model Competition and came to the top 5. At this international contest, Hiran won the photogenic and best costume titles. Hiran also walked the ramp in 2013 in Kazakhstan for ASPARA International Fashion Week. How long have you been modelling for Colombo Fashion Week and what are your thoughts on the show?
I have been modelling for the past 3 years for CFW, and it’s the biggest fashion show in Sri Lanka.
A work ethic or principle you believe in, in your career?
Work hard! It’s not easy to become a good model – it’s really hard so you need to have a good body, and you need to work hard, eat right and maintain your physique.
Advice to other aspiring models?
Identify your unique assets and work hard at shining through that one unique feature. To sum it up, it would be to “Work hard and always be humble”.
Your thoughts on being selected as the face of CFW this year?
I am so thrilled and happy. It’s like a dream come true and is a big achievement in my career. It certainly will go down as a milestone in my life and modelling career.
Important milestones/shoots in your career that left an impression? Or your favorite shoot thus far?
Through my modelling career, many people approached me and I have got into acting as well. I worked on a movie that is due for release and have performed in tele-drama’s as well. I am also a TV presenter for Hiru TV and have done several TV commercials and photo shoots for magazines, I have several good memories and experiences at photo shoots. I once did a photo shoot with an international photographer in Spain, called Rafael.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I love the fact that we are always meeting new people and travelling to new countries, which gives us the chance to experience different cultures, cuisine, people and see some of the most beautiful parts of the world.
Your diet and exercise regime?
Diet and Exercise are very important to me! I don’t eat junk food, keep away from sweets except dark chocolates (which are my weakness) and I eat lots of Proteins. I love to eat red rice for all three meals and I do Cardio exercises. I enjoy jogging at Independent Square or at the beach.
What is beauty to you?
I prefer natural beauty and I hate it when people try and overdo it with excessive makeup and hide their natural looks. Looks are a key feature in our industry, so needless to say it is very important to look and feel good.
Someone you admire in the fashion world and why?
I like David Gandy, he is a super model. His body, his style and his modelling technique is amazing to me!

Compared to European and East Asians we look very plain and ''ugly'' for most part. This guy looks very plain. In the photo with the green trouser this guy looks pretty ''ugly''...
