Review: Here For A Fit On

The theatre is always a nice place to visit on a weekend after a week at work and Indu Dharmasena’s plays are bound to have you in fits of laughter. “Here For A Fit On" revolves around Dr. Premjith Suwadena played by Indu an excellent doctor, who also happens to be a casanova. Feeling that his wife suspects, he meets his numerous girlfriends by them posing as his patients and the doctor convinces his friend Maithri Sri Hadhakarana (a famous dress designer) to let him use his house cum workshop, while he is away for a few days to meet up with his latest fling Sumi portrayed by Nihili Senerath.

The doctor arrives at Maithri’s house to find the dress designer’s assistant, Bandu played by Anoop Kapukotuwa there as he is down with the flu. Before he could cancel the rendezvous, his girlfriend arrives followed by another of his flings Anjana played by Sanwada Dharmasena, who’s practically stalking him. Then Anjana’s hypochondriac cousin, Gloria played by the hilarious Chithranga Kariyawasam, walks in looking for her. One lie leads to another as Sumi’s husband Mahen, another brilliant portrayal by Abbasali Rozais with his two bodyguards, naïve Anushika played by Senalli Ratnatunga and the haughty Renuka portrayed by Neshika De Silva also arrive at the dress designer’s house.

The play on the whole was quite entertaining although the first half did seem to drag and had me moving about in my seat quite a bit but the second act worked much better for the cast and they certainly did bring their “A” Game and had me at the edge of the seat eager to know what would happen next.

Standout performers to me were Anoop Kapukotuwa playing the role of Bandu. For starters his outfit was outrageous and had me bursting with laughter each time he got on stage.

Abbasali was fantastic with his portrayal of a character well known in the political arena, played his role to perfection made me actually think “My goodness this guy actually looks and talks like he who must not be named for the fear of getting assaulted or white vanned! (Oh! I’m not a foreigner I actually might stand a chance)".

All the other actors were fantastic and I couldn’t have asked for a better evening.
