It was a musical show held on Saturday, 26th May 2012 at the Bishop’s College auditorium.  The audience clapped to the beat as Damayantha Kuruppu, CEO of “DK Promotions” proudly presented “Yesterday Once More”.

“We want to keep alive the music of the Sixties.  We had our first show in January this year and it was a big success,” he said.

“I’d like to run away from you but if you never found me I would die…Impossible to live with you but I could never live without you…”sang Mignonne Fernando of “The Jetliners” fame, echoing the Shirley Bassey hit “Never Never Never”  She made a few announcements but the show was a novelty in that there was no compere.

“That’s what friends are for…”sang Sohan Weerasinghe along with Yasmine, accompanied by “The Xperiments”.

Sohan raised a few laughs when he appeared disguised as Pedro, complete with curly wig and dark glasses, as the Percussionist from Zanzibar.

Then it was the turn of the De Lanerolle brothers, Rohan and Ishan who harmonized the Everley Brothers’ hit “Ebony Eyes” followed by “Like Strangers” and “Dream”.

The audience clapped to the beat of the catchy “Under the Broadwalk”.  They then sang “Walk Right Back” and ended with the Englebert hit “Release Me”.

The evergreen Dalreen Suby sang and danced to “Fire” with the audience singing along.  In spite of a fractured right hand, Dalreen sang “You Were Always on my mind” with suitable hand gestures.

Then Yasmin and Dalreen sang a duet “Killing me Softly”.  Dalreen then ended with “Flashdance” singing with gusto “What A Feeling”!

In the second half of the show, Ronnie Leitch sang Cliff Richards songs including the ever popular “Young Ones” and “Lucky Lips”

“The show was excellent.  There was a variety of talent on show.  There were the legends of the past like Mignonne along with the more contemporary De Lanerolle Brothers and Rukshan Perera,” said Mr.Nasser Majeed who works for “Singer Inc.”

“It was very entertaining and I enjoyed the show very much.  I live and work in Abu Dhabi and we see the latest shows there,” said Ayne-Marie Leitch who said that she is not related to Ronnie Leitch and derives her surname from her Scottish husband.

Mela Karunanayake was there with her husband Ravi and she said, “We like Country and Western music and that’s why we come for all the musical shows.  It’s our way of relaxing.  Everybody in the show today is so talented.”

Thamali WIjegoonewardena said, “We live in the USA and we don’t get to hear Oldies songs so much so this is really nice.”

Her daughter Neluka added, “It’s a wonderful and new kind of experience for me.  I think that anyone can enjoy these types of songs and that’s why they have lasted.  They transcend time.”

Priyanganie Perera lives in Canada and was here on holiday with her daughter and a friend.  “The show was very nice.  It brought back a lot of memories.  I was really pleased to see Mignonne.  There was a really good mix of the old songs and I enjoyed it very much.  I live in Ottawa and it is a long time since I saw a show like this,” she enthused.
