Go Bold or Go Bare

There’s never been a more perfect time to overhaul your look and experiment with make- up. Metallics and sorbet shades reign supreme for the SS14 style set and the trend has transitioned into makeup, offering those who don’t want to embrace metallics in all their high shine glory a subtler way of experimenting with it.

The beauty of metallic make up is to highlight, to illuminate and reflect light to make you look your most stunning.Used carefully and with contoured precision it can add a soft iridescence that is alluringly beautiful. Add a little soft shimmer on your brow or cheek bones for a slight sheen or if you want to go heavier mix a glitter eyeshadow into a cream foundation and apply it working your way from the inner to the outer eye. Think more glowing chic and less disco ball. Unless you’re heading out to a theme party stay away from the over the top, heavy glitter look. Never look overdone and remember less is more when when it comes to high shine.

Faux - natural, the art of wearing make up while looking like you’re wearing none at all smacks of stylish sophistication. The bare-faced look using nudes, taupes and pastels is uber chic and if you need inspiration, think Christina Jayawardene who wears it so beautifully. Shovelling your make-up on with a trowel is a definite no no, fashionable (barely) in the 80’s we’ve progressed in leaps and bounds since. Choosing the right colour foundation, cream or powder based, is key for this look as it’s all about fresh, dewy skin not caked on. Make sure it’s the right tone for you, avoid the delusion of fairness, as going a few shades lighter will have people wondering who the clown is!

The coral lip, seen on catwalks around the world ,and done exquisitely for KT Brown's standout red suit at CFW, is the edgier alternative to the red lip. It looks lush, screams sunshine and holidays and makes a hot, hot style statement. As with the red lip, unless you’re on the catwalk, all other make up needs to be kept completely minimal as your lips are the focus.

Smoky eyes and pale lips were de rigueur on and off the catwalk at  CFW. The make- up equivalent of the little black dress, it adds instant glamour and sex appeal to any outfit. Master the art of this look as it can be adapted for both day and night.
