‘Identities Inc’ – Glengarry Glen Ross
“There is no room for losers in this dramatically masculine world; only ‘closers’ will get the good sales leads”
We are yet to be stunned by a tide of theatre this July by a widely known cast of actors performing a promising play within the local theatre scene. ‘Glengarry Glen Ross’ is a proud production by the Identities Inc, directed by Gehan Blok to be performed at the Punchi theatre Borella from July 17th – 20th 2014.
We caught up with Gehan Blok one of the founders of ‘Identities Inc’ to enlighten us about the aspiring newly formed theatre company.
1. When did the 'Identities' form? Tell us a little about it.
About six months ago.
Identities Inc. is a performing and visual arts movement founded in 2014. It is made up of various young individuals in the theatre/film circle of Sri Lanka specializing in different skills in the industry both on and off the stage. The group offers aspiring artists the opportunity to showcase and further their talents in all aspects of performance and production ranging from acting and directing to set/costume designing, cinematography, photography, lighting, sound, creative work etc. A collective effort, Identities Inc. stays true to its namesake with diverse personalities working together as a single unit towards an all-round amazing production of theatre or film.
Identities Inc. is driven by Gehan Blok and Dominic Kellar together with a whole bunch of people within the English theatre circle in Sri Lanka. Most of them are attached to other theatre companies in different capacities from acting to directing to producing etc. The purpose of forming identities is to produce good theatre and film with the hope of enhancing the arts industry in the country. The motive is to bring everyone together within the industry, to do different types of theatre/film projects in unison in order to utilize each other’s strengths to produce a well-rounded production and have fun in the process.
Also we want to give everyone behind the scenes a chance to shine and showcase their talents with the hope of them being discovered by professionals in the industry to help them go places.
2. What genre of plays do you specialise in and why?
No particular genre - we don't want to stick to just one type of theatre or film. We will always try to do something different - it's important to not label yourself as a production company that does only one type of theatre or film. Also with the different personalities we have it's highly unlikely that we will stick to one genre anyway.
3. What is your most recent project yet to complete?
The most recent project we handled was our first production of film at Identities Inc. which is the trailer for our new play “Glengarry Glen Ross” on YouTube – it was produced by the bunch of us at Identities with little or no professional help.
Do check out the trailer for Glengarry Glen Ross
