Get together some of the best hits of all time being sung by today’s young voices, add to that some lively and upbeat movement, not to forget the personality all this brings to each performance, and what do you get? Precisely “Hall of Fame” by the up and coming show choir, Music In Motion.

Being at a rehearsal, it’s practically testing not to want to move along to the beat as the choir members do and I had to resort to snapping fingers and tapping feet and be content thereof! “Lively” is Music In Motion in a nutshell, to say the least.

Music In Motion’s got a stellar line up for “Hall of Fame,” their second show. Directress Safra Deen stresses, “Unlike most choirs, we take dance to another level. We’re trying to hit a very high standard in both singing and dancing.” Formed in 2010 as a group with fewer numbers consisting students from Royal Institute and some choristers from Bishops’ College Safra directed in school for their first show “Fame,” Music In Motion has now branched out with people from all over. Safra adds, “All are either fantastic singers or fantastic dancers here.

All can sing but not all are pro at dancing though!” I will disagree this once and say they were next to flawless the time I watched them. Natasha Burhan, directress of choreography believes “One always feels music better and appreciates it with accurate timing, and that’s exactly what choreography will bring right home. It’s more than just a support to singing or stage stunt.” Lined up for the audience is a repertoire that will take you on a stroll down the hall of fame in music.

As Safra emphasizes although it is about reliving and celebrating legends, the show is essentially more about what a new twist can do to these legends. A Broadway medley, Disco medley, a Sinhala medley and a thematic medley on change and revolution and a number of solos and group items both choral and dance are waiting in the wings. From Elvis to Pitbull, Bob Marley to Queen, Sean Paul, Maroon 5, Adele or John Lennon, you name it and their numbers are sure to be part of the show.

Part of all proceeds is to be directed towards Adopt a Dog and Wildlife conservation. In essence, the show is a group passionate about music and dance coming together for a good cause also about which they are passionate. I’d say no music, dance or simply performance lover would want to miss this one. Hall of Fame is scheduled to take place at the Bishop’s College Auditorium on Saturday, the 16th of February. The Sunday Times and Daily Mirror are official Print media sponsors.
