HSBC Colombo Fashion Week 2014 presents two Exclusive Workshops to inspire the fashion professionals and enthusiasts.
Thursday, 30th January 2014, Colombo: HSBC Colombo Fashion Week, now in its 11th year running premiers on the 6th, 7th 8th of February 2014 featuring high profile designers both local and international – vying for recognition and critical acclaim.
In addition to the ramp events that steal much of the public’s attention, this not-for-profit annual event stays true to its vision of developing and uplifting Colombo’s fashion design industry through its envied behind-the-scenes mentoring process and workshops held for prodigies in the fashion field who are yet to make their mark.
HSBC Colombo Fashion Week keeps on educating and uplifting the local fashion industry by inviting leading UK fashion experts and designers to run interactive workshops and discussions for aspiring fashion entrepreneurs, fashion students and seasoned industry professionals, sharing their knowledge and experience.
This year HSBC Colombo Fashion Week has invited two coveted speakers from India to conduct two unique workshops. Nonita Kalra will also be gracing this year’s workshop by HSBC CFW this year highlighting on the importance of Fashion Media and Journalism on the 8th of Feb 2014.
This would open doors for journalists, fashion photographers in the local and international fashion arena. Nonita Kalra has over two decades of media experience, in print and television.
She has worked with organisations like India Today, Business World, UTV, BiTV, Mans World and The Indian Express. As Editor-in-Chief of ELLE India, where she spent nearly 13 years, she has been an influencer in fashion, beauty and lifestyle; her ideas and her initiatives have shaped careers and launched trends.
Nonita also writes a monthly column for Express Eye, the Sunday magazine that comes with The Indian Express.
On 5th of February Romanie Jaitly will speak on the role of Traditional Textile/Crafts and their impact on Fashion and Textiles. Romanie is a graduate from the Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan.
She has worked widely as a Designer and Design Consultant to many organizations and at present she heads the Textile Department at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Romanie has authored a book published by Mapin, called “TANA BANA” Hand-woven and Handcrafted Textiles of India.
She has been a Design Consultant to many organizations and with her special interest in the area of Print Design, her work with Anokhi finds place in their museum in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
She has also been associated with the Festival of India projects like “The of Royal Costumes India” for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the “Textile Exhibition” for the Louvre in Paris.
To further ass to this workshop HSBC Colombo Fashion Week has invited two of its own designers Ramona Oshini and Indeevari Yapa Abeywardena to share their experiences of working with the crafts community of Sri Lanka and how the duo have used crafts in their collections for HSBC CFW this year.
