From fashion models and actresses to pretty politicos, I’ve met and spoken to most. This time I met up with a pretty young girl who is into doodling. In fact she is the only girl I’ve met who indulges in this form of art.

When did you start doodling?
I started doodling during my Ordinary Level classes. In my LIT class, while my teacher was teaching I would doodle wherever I found space between the chapters in the book “Village by the Sea “. I got really good feedback from everyone, so I kept on drawing… Then I started researching about this art. I really learnt so much about this. I came across this artist called Kerby Rosanes. So far, he is the BEST doodle artist I’ve ever seen. I was really inspired by his work.
What is “doodling” in your own words?
A real doodle is an unfocused drawing made while a person’s attention is otherwise occupied. But I am a bit different in my doodling; as in, I draw to a theme most of the time. Unfocused doodling is something that everyone does. I’m sure even you do it, when you are on a call or in a boring class you scribble on a piece of paper. It’s in us – doodling.
Is it good money?
Yes doodling is good money. You need to do your best and be exceptional to earn good money with this form of art.
How popular is doodling in Sri Lanka?
In Sri Lanka doodling is not very popular. But I feel it is catching up.
What have you achieved with doodling?
I am really new to this form of art, but I am happy to say that I’ve achieved more than I expected within a short period of time. Recently I won first place from Earth Hour Sri Lanka. Also people buy my drawings. I’ve sold my drawings to magazines in Sri Lanka. I’ve also gotten a chance to do a doodle in D. S. Senanayake College Psycho Parade 2014. And I am hoping to do wall doodling too.
How does doodling connect to your life?
Doodling is something that I really enjoy in my life. I don’t need a specific time or a place to doodle. As long as I have a pen and a paper I can doodle. For me, doodling is meditation. Sometimes I don’t even think of drawing or the way I hold the pen, but at the end of the drawing I somehow produce a good piece.

What do people say about your work?
When people see my drawings, they always say “I really love your work, I wish I could also draw like you”. Never ever think like that. We all have our own passions. Find them, follow them and never complain about yourself, make yourself your hero. Find your way and be yourself. Always treat everyone with a nice smile.
