Designer Saree caters exclusively for those looking for the best in high fashion ethnic wear, from exquisitly detailed embroidery to simple creative designs, the store is definitely one to check out.
Started on Facebook late last year by Kaushadhi Wijetunga, the store offers a wide range of high fashion products such as sarees, salwar kameez, designer kurtis, jewelry and fashion accessories. Unlike other retailers, they offer a superb collection of designs including an exclusive collection of replica Bollywood designs which I’ve been told I won’t find in other stores.

“Sri Lankan’s don’t spend much on sarees, even I don’t like to spend too much on sarees so I know that not only has the material and design have to be beautiful, it also has to be affordable”, said Kaushadhi. The price range for items vary depending on designs with sarees selling anywhere between ten to twenty thousand. All items are imported from India and handpicked by Kaushadhi herself to ensure quality.

Customers also have the option of ordering custom made sarees and jackets for any occasion, along with bridesmaid sarees. “When it comes to bridal orders, the bride can book an appontiment to see me and we will go over the designs togther. Sometimes the bride will have her own designs in mind and other times I will suggest designs. Once the design has been chosen, an advance must be paid before I place the order to india, delivery takes between 3 to 4 days and once its received the balance can be paid,” explained Kaushadhi.

Customers have the option of placing orders over phone, mail or the provided customer order forms. Once the transaction has been complete, they may either pick up the items directly from Kaushadhi or if located outstation (the store has a garnered plenty of clientele as far as Jaffna) may pay a small fee and have the items couriered to an address.

With a rapidly growing clientele, plans are already in motion to expand the collections and open a store near Galle Road; so if you love high quality ethnic wear, do keep an eye out for that.
