The first two versions of the Carlton Super Sevens were a new experience for Sri Lankan Rugby fans as 20 Asian and International teams participated in an intense action packed tournament. The most notable of these were the Fijian and New Zealand teams as they were first witnessed in Sri Lanka at the Carlton 7’s tournament. The 2010 version of Carlton Rugby adapted a new concept which was used for the first time in the Rugby world. The 2011 version followed a franchise based concept where 10 franchisers were established.
The Carlton Super Sevens 2012 will consist of regional teams consisting of local club players, international players and under 21 players, while its main goal is to enhance the standards of local rugby.
The event would be a great launching pad for up and coming players as well as the senior local players; they would be exposed to the leading sevens players in the world, such as New Zealand Rugby Captain Ritchie McCaw, Tomasi Cama, D.J. Forbes, Tim Mickkleson, Frank Halai Matthew Turner and Dan Norton.
The tournament will run for two weeks and will showcase the following nine teams from the nine provinces while there will also be an additional combined team:

· Eastern Eagles
· Sabaragamuwa Stallions
· Uva Vipers
· North Central Typhoons
· Southern Sharks
· Central Kings
· Northern Gladiators
Adding more glamour to this international and celebrated event, will be a number of Bollywood and Sri Lankan celebrities. For Bollywood fans, both gorgeous Preity Zinta and hearththrob Vivek Oberoi will be at the tournament in Kandy on the 27th of May 2012, 2:00pm onwards. This will be the first time that two international celebrities have visited Kandy for an event together!

Two days of heart pumping Rugby action will come to a conclusion with performances featuring the cream of Bollywood and Kollywood; Bipasha Basu and Sameera Reddy. This will be followed by a 120 minute concert featuring Shankar Ehsaan & Loy including many acts by local artists as well.
Bollywood diva Bipasha Basu will be there to sign autographs, interact with the audience and watch the games from 4pm to 5pm and will perform live at 7.00pm with a host of back up dancers flown in from India especially for the event. Sameera Reddy will sign autographs, interact with the audience and watch the games from 5pm to 6pm and will perform live at 7.30pm, also with a host of back up dancers flown in from India.
All this will be followd by a live concert featuring renowned Bollywood musicians, Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan and Loy. The soundtrack artistes for a number of major Bollywood films such as “My Name is Khan”, “Kal Ho Na Ho” and “Dil Chatha Hai”, they will also perform hit songs from their albums Breathless and Nine. The special rugby theme song which has been produced and composed by the trio; Shanker, Ehsaan and Loy will be officially launched and performed live at the event. This closing ceremony would undoubtedly be the best of its kind to be witnessed in Sri Lanka!
