Call It What You Want, the second production from renowned singer and teacher Peshali Yapa featured a variety of popular music for both the young and old to enjoy. Each of the songs was handpicked by Peshali to covey an underlying theme of love and friendship, though the overall message is left for the audience interpret, hence the tittle call it what you want.

Playing to a full house, the show featured 2 choir groups with members ranging between the ages of 35 to 5. The senior group ‘Coro CantAmici’ and the juniors ‘The Piccolinis’, 72 students altogether; sang and danced their way through several classics, weaving a story about the ups and downs of love through the show.

Opening the show with Somewhere Out There were the Piccolinis, (whom I just have to add were the cutest things!) before the whole cast joined them onstage to welcome the audience with Hello Hello.

Coro CantAmici took over from there with classis hits like Uptown Girl, It’s Raining Men, Ma, He’s Making Eyes At Me and A Wonderful Guy. The Piccolinis came back to lighten the mood with the song Ja-Da, before Coro CantAmici’ joined the stage once more with a medley of hits from the swinging 60’s.

After the short intervel, The Piccolinis showcased their budding talent again with Let the River Run and Swinging on a Star.  And then Coro CantAmici returned with Right Here Waiting, You Don’t Own Me and Standing in the Need of Prayer.

Both choirs got together for a rousing performance of Friends on Broadway before the evening was rounded off with the soothing Love Psalm and Goodnight, Sweet heart, Goodnight.

The show all round was certainly an enjoyable evening and although the first few songs were a tad off key in places, the choirs soon picked things up and had the show running smoothly, delivering some excellant performances. My personal favourite was the ladies of Coro CantAmici singing I will Follow Him and Shout.

Peshali and her choirs certainly must be appaluaded for a job well done and hopefully, we’ll be seeing more from them soon.
