It finally happened! Sri Lanka’s first ever food challenge and it most certainly was EPIC from the get go!  Danu who is a well known personality in the media circuit, teamed up with Harpo Gooneratne who needs no introduction to the hospitality field re-launched the “colossal burger” at the Colombo Fort Café calling it “A Danu” and invited 20 contestants to finish the burger along with accompaniments and Pepsi.

“The burger consists of one kilogram of meat (chicken/beef), onions, tomato and the 20 contestants certainly had not only their hands but also their mouths full trying to finish it” said Alec of the Colombo Fort Café.

The Competition kicked off at 4:45pm and finished by 5pm with Faizal winning in 15 minutes, a feat that certainly deserves a 21 gun salute! 1st runner up Aaron, clocked in at 16 minutes while 2nd runner up Fawad finshed after 17 minutes.

But what caught the writer’s eye most was the fact that here were 20 different people of various casts and creeds happily digging away not one bit bothered by the fact that they were Sinhalese, Muslim, Tamil or Burgher and that my friends is the beauty of food.

Organizers

Danu - This was in celebration of 200 weeks of the buzz and It was fun organizing it!

Harpo - When Danu came up with the idea to change the name of the Colossal burger and rename it as the 'Danu' we liked his entire concept. And the idea to launch it through a challenge was brilliant since no one has ever done a food challenge before in the country.
