Another revived trend from the 60’s is the bell sleeve, which was noticeable at the runway shows of Gucci, Carolina Herrera and Chanel. Which brings out the notion that the bell sleeve is a definite trend for anyone in 2013, since the bell sleeve is a flattering look, especially to those who want to make their arms look elongated.
Bell sleeves can be either long or short and is usually set smoothly surrounding the arm without any pleats or shirring, and flares toward the bottom. The bell sleeves end anywhere from the elbow to the wrist.
The name of the sleeve is derived from the shape it reminiscent, which is a bell.
Gucci’s spring and summer 2013 collection hit the runway with a new colourful tenacity, referencing to a classic Italian ready to wear aesthetic with a distinct 60’s energy.
Frida Giannini, the designer for Gucci described the collection as "aristographic". The designer played with vivid hues such as cobalts, pinks, aquas and yellows while also reconnecting the bell-sleeves with long evening gowns, which definitely stole the show.
Apart from Gucci making a colourful statement with the bell sleeves, Carolina Herrera’s last look for 2013 was definitely a show stopper with Karlie Kloss wearing a cream-coloured dress with three-quarter bell sleeves adorned with orange and silver beading at the edges which showcased more of young and elegant collection.
Karl Largerfeld for Chanel did not disappoint at Paris Fashion Week as well, since he gave emphasis to the shoulders in his garments by incorporating the bell sleeves.
It clearly seem like the bell sleeves are in this year, so why not pull out that 60’s look whilst bell-ing those sleeves!
