Here is another personality from our neighbouring India – Ashmita. She is not just a beauty in front of the camera. She has a Bachelor’s in IT, and has also completed her MBA.

With such an impressive educational background she dabbles in modelling in India, working herself up the ladder of the glamorous world of fashion.

Life Online caught up with Ashmitha Bhakshi for a quick chat.

Ashmita, seems like you are very educated. How does that relate with the glamorous modelling you do?

Being a post graduate student and having completed my MBA in media & marketing after my Bsc. IT and doing my post graduate in event management, I decided that since education is important and I finally completed everything, I had to fulfil my passion and my dream of becoming a model/actor.

Being educated built a confidence in me to take up modelling /acting as it helped build my personality and gave me a well-defined persona amongst all.

When did you discover the model in you?

Modelling was never the first choice. I always wanted to be a doctor and that is the reason I chose Science as my first subject, then later with the passing years, in college festivals I participated in short movies, ramp shows, personality contests and dance competitions. That is when I realised that my first choice was modelling.

With acting and ultimately showcasing my talent in front of the camera, the love for camera was discovered, love for being an artist portraying different characters and learning about different roles.

Thus it was a full-fledged journey of discovery over a period of 3 years when I finally entered the industry and modelling.

You come from a very traditional Indian family, how do you cope up with any requirements from them about the nature of the shoots you take on?

Yes I hail from a traditional background where a girl is judged by the kind of clothes she wears, by the kind of lifestyle she lives. But with the change in the trend of society, parents have developed a mindset of adjusting to their children’s choices. And that is exactly what happened with me. I have developed a strong relationship with my parents and communicate to them the kind of work I take on. I have gained their trust and confidence and ultimately their support as they respect my love for work and appreciate it too. Thus even if there were a few requirements in the initial stages of work, with my interest and love for work, my family has supported me always and will continue to do so.

Since your country has a huge cinema industry, haven’t you tried entering it?

True. My country India, especially my birth place Mumbai is the base of the industry both Bollywood and television. I decided to try my luck in films and television only after my studies were over completely, and now when they are done, I have started working towards it and aiming to achieve something very soon.

It takes a lot of time to get into the industry; it is not as easy as it seems. It needs both hard work and luck. So far I have worked in television serials like Crime Patrol on Sony TV, doing a parallel lead in a show called "Niyati" on Sahara One, website shoots for Shoppersstop brands like STOP, W, BIBA, HAUTE CURRY etc.
I am also expecting to start work on two more television serials mid this year.

Ashmita – are you a family person?

Born and brought up in Mumbai, I am a Punjabi, Sikh girl, who has been close to her family ever since childhood; from grandparents to siblings.

My mother is my strength and my younger brother is my weakness. My dad is a little strict as one parent has to be as per Indian tradition, but both are very understanding and I love them a lot.

Being raised by grandparents instilled even more traditional values in me and it ultimately got me closer to my family and this will continue forever.
