Meet Iresha Asanki – Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World 2013

We have a new beauty queen in town and she is Iresha Asanki – Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World 2013. During my interview I noticed that she is a reserved individual and she is determined to make her mark in the Miss World Finale, scheduled to be held on September 28 at the Sentul International Convention Centre, Sentul and Nusa Dua, Indonesia.

Full name  - Iresha Asanki Desilva
Nickname  - Everyone calls me Asanki as I don’t have a nickname
Education - Buddhist Girls’ College
Waist - 27
Bust - 32
Height - 5’8
Hair Colour - Black
Eye Colour - Black
Life’s motto   - Going forward with our own will

Here is Iresha up close & personal with Life Online.

You have participated in 4 pageants before this. Did the experience you gained from those competitions help you to win Miss Sri Lanka this year?

Every pageant I went made me a stronger person and helped me to overcome many mistakes. Also the confidence I built up was invaluable.

Are you getting any offers or opportunities for singing, acting etc.?

Yes, I am happy that I am getting many invitations to take part in the entertainment field. I have to accept that I can’t sing, but I just love acting. Right now I am contributing to a movie named “Agni Warsha” which will be screened soon. I am looking forward to be in many other movies. I actually like to be in movies more than being in tele-dramas.

What is your biggest strength, which you think contributed to you winning this year’s title?

We need a mixture of height, beauty and confidence to take part in an international level pageant.  And I am thankful that I had them in me. Anyway the biggest strength that made me the winner is my confidence.

Sri Lankan parents are reluctant to send their daughters to beauty pageants. Did you have such issues from at homefront?

In the beginning I had those issues from my two elder brothers. But my father was very understanding and he gave me permission to take part in the pageant. My family and I understand that there is lots of travelling, late night shoots, conferences involved. I believe you need to have self discipline too.

Are you well prepared for the grand finale?

I know I have a huge responsibility as I am representing my country. So everything has to be perfect. I feel I am ready but I have many things which need to be corrected. I have one month to prepare anyway, so I will do my best to get ready.

Finally, since Rosy Senanayake, we’ve never won any other world titles. Is there hope with you?

It’s a huge task as it is a world class competition. Like I said in your earlier question, I am trying to overcome any shortcomings I have. And I am keeping constant pressure on myself as well. All I can ask my fans, my friends and the people of Sri Lanka is to keep your fingers crossed and pray.

what has happen to SL. Is the judges are blind or pretty girls wont come to pageant. She is not 1% gud enough to represent SL in miss world they should stop her!! There is more beautiful girls in somalia better than her..

  2. madu says:

shes not pretty at all not beauty pagent material at all

  3. Alex says:

Harry is absulutly correct..... after Jakie F. all other "Beauti Queens" looks like Denawaka Haminees...i wonder how they win these stuff.....n the Judges....they must be outta their mind or ...

  4. Roy says:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She has won the competion to represent our homeland and was not appointed politically!! We as Sri lankans should support her and wish her success. Best of luck Asanki. Well wished from Los Angeles

  5. nicky karunarathna says:

Beauty is in the beholder of the eye. For me - she is sooo sweet, pretty and beautiful and top of that sexzy too. Let this beautiful butterfly represent our country without this unwanted comment coming from nincompoops.

  6. Honest Abe says:

#harry. Your comment is in very poor taste. Since when is your opinion so valuable that you are the ultimate purveyor of the beauty of women in S/Lanka? It is downright rude and vulgar to deride a young girl who has won a competition to represent S/Lanka. What happened to common decency and the adage that " If you have nothing good to say about someone, then say nothing".

  7. Love doctor says:

Why do you under rate Somalia? Somalia is a better country to live in and you are right, better looking girls too.

  8. kimberly says:

politics creep into everything, judges tastes gone for dogs, this is main reason that we never won a title in world event. there so many beautiful girls in sri Lanka..... no idea and I’m speechless. Even this apply to sri Lankan airlines majority are not beautiful, plump and some may don’t speak proper English still enjoying big pay and allowance.

  9. pinky says:

Yes she is not very beatiful but something is there. I think not enough to compete at an International Pagent, what to do if beatiful girl are not participating in this type of pageants. Any way good luck to her.

  10. Rohan says:

This girl looks very much Sri lankan and very pretty. She has the height and natural look. Those people who commented about Somalia may not know that Somalian girls are famous for their strange beauty. There are internationally famous Somalian models who happen to marry famous western singers etc. I believe Iresha's beauty will be appreciated at the Miss World contest. It is good to send a natural Sri lankan girl than a half-cast girl.

  11. Gemba says:

#kimberly. I feel that you seem to have a tinge of jealousy by reading your comments. Anyone is free to enter these contests, no one is barred that includes you. What have the Sri Lankan airlines got to with beauty contests? To work in an airline one does not have to be a beauty queen, one must be presentable , intelligent and be able to handle the job. It looks like you are envious of others who have been chosen. Far Eastern

  12. Observer says:

This girl has the "typical Sri Lankan look. She doesn't have to look like every one else or a westerner, if she can carry herself well, smart and intelligent, she qualifies for the pageant. It is very sad to read some of the comments from few readers who has no idea

  13. Honest Abe says:

#Abby, Your friend Harry may have the right to make a comment, but why make derogatory comments on a young girl, who has already been chosen to represent Sri Lanka. A constructive comment is OK, but to deride her looks and cast aspersions on her without even knowing the person is not only improper but as I stated , is in very poor taste. In any case who is this Harry? Is he he the final arbiter of Sri Lankan beauty?

  14. Percy says:

Comments by Harry are in extremely poor taste and reflects a vicious cruel mind trying to humiliate a fellow human being. The moderator should never have allowed publication of his comments. As for Kimberley's comments on SL Airline stewards,he/she seems to be ignorant that service in an airline cabin is determined by the efficiency and quality of service,NOT good looks. There are many good looking but DUMB women. As for looks K shd travel in some of the European and American airlines where stewar

  15. Abby says:

Agreed with Harry! @Honest Abe: Harry has every right to state an opinion! As a "beauty" representative of course she is judged based on looks more than talent! Abe you are just a hypocrite!

  16. Gemba says:

@Abby: Everyone has a right to their opinion, if you read "Honest Abe's' comment, all he said was not to disparage and make ugly comments about young girls. Also he does question Harry's motives in making disparaging comments. It shows bad breeding to talk ill of people who one does not know. So if you agree with Harry as you say in your comment, that puts you too in that category of ill bred people who disparage others. Its a sad state of affairs. It seems like a S/L trait to speak ill of other

  17. Gemba says:

Totally agree with the sensible comments made by Percy. Well said Percy - a decent human being.

  18. Honest abe says:

#Abby: Have you got even the faintest idea what a hypocrite is? It appears by your comment , you do not have the faintest notion of the meaning of that word.

  19. manpei says:

If you have nothing good to say don't say anything please

  20. Asitha says:

Having gone through all the comments..I only wish to say good luck Asanki

  21. John Keats says:

This village lass has the charm though somewhat rustic in her answers due to poor exposure. I predict she won't make it even to the final ten. Nonetheless she is several notches ahead of the one we imported last year to represent SL.

  22. shamiz says:

hayyoooooo........ did u think she is a beauty? if u think like that u r blind, don't waste your web space with uploading these kind of unwanted things, and also tell her to see the face in mirror.......

  23. Booger says:

She is a very sexy and beautiful srilankan girl. I hope many of you who comment go back and learn proper English first before commenting on another person's beauty. There are many beautiful women in Sri Lanka and you fools must learn to appreciate all different kinds of appearances. Maybe your expectations are too high, godeias

  24. Booger says:

There are many beautiful women in Sri Lanka and you fools need to appreciate different sorts of appearances. She is beautiful and sexy. Before you write your negative and derogatory comments, please go back to school and learn proper English thank you. You all have expectations that are too high. P.s it's not like Sri Lanka is crowded with good looking men, you are all talking like you are bradd Pitt. That is all. Godayas.

  25. Gas Gemba says:

This girl will make a good 'Avrudhu Kumari".No doubt about that.
