Every once in a while the Sri Lankan diaspora produces a  gem of an entertainer . Andrew De Silva, the winner of Australia’s Got Talent 2012 is one of them. 

Enjoying immense success after winning the reality show Andrew has been working on new material. Taking  time out of his busy schedule Andrew shares his anecdotes on travel with his Sri Lankan fans.

Your favourite travel destination and why?

Honestly it would have to be Sri Lanka. Its the best country in the world! I was born in Australia & have only been to Sri Lanka twice.

I took my kids to Sri Lanka last year and we all really loved it.

I had a chance work and holiday on the same trip. It was also really nice to visit family I hadn't seen in many years. It is really a hidden paradise. 

What do you need for a perfect holiday?

My partner Elle. Without her I'd be a total mess and probably end up getting stranded somewhere with no luggage!


In which country have you felt most at home?

Sri Lanka of course. I'm designed for that climate.


Most unusual souvenir you have brought home?

A bra made of coconuts from Fiji .

Favourite holiday discovery?

It would have to be Galle. Its filled with history and such beautiful beaches. I also found a special place in Galle where I proposed to Elle.


Worst holiday or travel experience?

The worst travel experience would have to be when my parents would drive us from Melbourne to Sydney (12 hour drive) when I was a kid.

I just remember having no air-con in the car & being sick all the time.


Best piece of travel advice?

Always do your research & travel light.

What has travel taught you?

That God is truly magnificent in all his creation.

What is the country you will never go back to?

I can't say there's any place like that I feel strongly about..



Next travel destination?

Cyprus, as that is where my fiance is from.
