In conversation with Anarkalli Aakarssha...
Full name :Anarkalli J Aakarssha
Nickname : Akarsha
Anarkalli needs no introduction. She’s been in the limelight on the silver screen and in the political arena and today I meet up with her for an informal chat. Anarkalli has been an iconic film star in Sinhala cinema. Her acting style and the characters she’s portrayed have always been phenomenal. Multitalented as a singer, dancer, TV host, fitness guru, fashion model and most importantly humanitarian, this beauty was also crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2004 and represented Sri Lanka at the Miss World 2004 beauty pageant. Her outlook on life is positive. Even though she’s been the target of slander and gossip, she holds her head high and continues through life confidently.
Here are a few excerpts off the interview I had with her.
Has life changed for you after the last election?
Of course not, I am the same Anarkalli as ever before. I never took politics, acting as a life changing point. After elections I started putting more effort into humanitarian work just like I was doing all this time. The future of a woman is not directed at one thing. Nowadays a woman is very versatile and one change in life can’t affect her.
What’s your secret for beautiful skin?
I honestly don’t do anything special. Just love yourself and do what suits you.
Do you follow a diet?
First point to be made is that there is NO DIET PLAN.
Don’t eat in excess
Feel good about what you eat
If you can, then exercise
Would you believe me if I say I have 7 cups of regular milk tea every day?
Everyone knows that you are close to your mother and she is your pillar of strength. In one word, what does she mean to you?
She is my best friend and I do have a perfect mother. So many people think that leaving your parents is part of growing up. And they are wrong. I am closer to my mother than ever before.
You are a super star in Sinhala cinema and also a political figure that’s been the target of gossip and slander. How do you handle this?
Simple, I don’t take notice. Since I was a baby I was into this and people know who I am.
You are into fitness, politics, acting, singing and so much more. Do you believe that you are multi-talented?
My life is all about cinema but I don’t have any boundaries in life.
When can we see you in a wedding dress?
Marriage is a lifetime thing and I will take time to decide when and whom to make it perfect.
In ten years’ time, whom will you see in the mirror?
I will see someone who has broken all barriers in society.
Since you are also a youth icon, do you have any message for them?
Manage your time. I see many young people wasting their time doing nothing. They think life needs time. Don’t think like that, always listen to your parents and do what’s best for your life. Also don’t be afraid to take responsibility. We have a talented bunch of young people in this island. I hope they will mould our country to be a superb nation in the future.
