The hype has been created, the stage is set and you have bought your tickets for After Class. However in order for you to prepare you for the story that will unravel over the weekend at the British School Auditorium, Life spoke to the director and some of the main characters in the cast about their roles and this is what they had to say…
Ruvin De Silva, Director
The play talks about a lot of things such as conformism, power play but for me it’s about basic relationships. I haven’t asked Jithendra, the playwright what inspired him to write this script, but after we are done with the play I definitely want to have a chat with him and ask him what he was going through when he wrote it because it is a beautiful script.
It took me about two years to read the script, because it was lying in my inbox. However it is very interesting to work on this because each scene is on a different level and each character has their own individual personality.
Working with this cast has been interesting because it comprises those who I have worked with before and those I haven’t as well.
Brandon Ingram, Dorian
Dorain reads and talks a lot of poetry and there is something mysterious about him. It’s been great being a part of this play. When I first read the script I told Tracy that I wanted this role sometime back. But after beginning to act it out I have realised that it is certainly not what I expected but it has been interesting.
Eshara Silva, Suraya
My character is an all round achiever who is going through a lot of changes in her life. She meets Dorian and he puts thoughts into her mind and makes her question everything she is doing. It has been so much fun being a part of this production because the cast is big and fun to work with.
Thanuja Jayawardena, Nadia
I play the ambitious and intelligent woman whose father is a powerful figure in the government. Nadia is influenced by her father’s political decisions but she is very much her own person. The most interesting part about Nadia’s role is that she is involved in a romantic relationship with someone who is trying to topple the government. The main thing about my role is that it is conflicted.
Pasan Ranaweera, Gabriel
Gabriel is a character that comes in the imagination of Dorian who works against the system and calls for a change.
The rest of the cast is as follows,
Gehan Blok as Villa
Dinesha Senaratne as Kimi
Jehan Gunasekara as Gary
Anuk De Silva as Carson
Rebecca Munasinghe as Natalie
Niren Jayasinghe as Coach
Suli as Shanaz
