With hours left for him to perform live in Hikkaduwa which is the party hub of Sri Lanka, Life Online caught up with the creator of hits such as “Wild world” and “I just wanna be close to you” Maxi Priest.

Maxi Priest is also scheduled to perform tomorrow (10 August) in Colombo at the grand opening ceremony of the 21 day cricketing carnival - Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL).

For someone who is on one of the most gruelling tours and landed at his next destination just a few hours before this interview took place, Maxi was feeling quite at home and pumped up to answer the questions Life Online threw at him.

How did you enter the music industry?

Well when I was young, I loved performing. I watched musicals all the time and this led me to perform at various places. Once when I was performing at a restaurant someone from my first record label was there and they noticed my talent and it’s been a long long journey since then.

How did you come up with the song ‘Wild world’?

When I was given the song, first I didn’t like it! But then when we got together and started mixing various elements into it, I knew the song had the potential to be big.

What are your views on life?

(Going into deep thought) I think life is something amazing. I thank God for everything I have got so far.  Life is simply Beautiful.

What separates a good show from a bad one?

I guess it’s the way a crowd reacts to your performance, if you have done a good show they will be highly appreciative of you.

What have you heard of Sri Lanka?

Cricket! I love the game. You know the guy with the long hair? (Lasith Malinga) I want to meet him! He took bowling to a next level! I can play a bit of cricket as well! I’m really excited to be performing for the opening of the Sri Lanka Premier League.

What are we going to expect at Hikkaduwa Vibration on Saturday?

Just be ready for a party like no other, see you guys there.

Maxi will be performing at Hikkaduwa Vibration on Saturday 11 August. Tickets are priced at 4000/= and 2500/=.
