Swim Week Colombo is set to take place from the 24 – 26 of June at the Colombo Port and is a host to a number of designers, both local and international. Having collaborated with reputed swimwear manufacturer, Linea Aqua, Swim Week Colombo will present 14 Sri Lankan and international designers on the runway.
Partnering up with Swim Week Colombo, Life Online puts the spotlight on Meraki. Meraki is a brand that’s about soul, passion and creativity. The brand name is derived from Greek and is of the meaning of ‘putting yourself into your work’.
At Swim Week Colombo, Meraki would be presenting their collection ‘Quintessentially Monochrome - Intense Confidence Feminised’ where classic will meet contempory in a fusion of lycra in the soft tones of monochrome.
Why choose monochrome as a colour theme for the seasons collection?
Well, I think it’s a timeless classic that simply never goes out of style. It is an elegance of vivid colour in the presence and absence of all colours. For me, there is an unspoken colour in the noise of every colour combined and then the quiet solitude of no colour. So the Ying and Yang of this potent pair is a balance of powerful grace with a soft fury of beauty.
What is the “Meraki” girl like?
She’s strong, confident, fearless and elegant.
Is there anything sustainable that you plan to do with this collection?
Well, Meraki collaborated with Linea Aqua which is a front runner in the field of sustainability. Having done that, we use remnant fabrics or ‘scrap material’ that may have been discarded. This is not just to ensure that there is minimum wastage but to also ultimately result in there being a lower carbon footprint in our end product.
Why did you choose ‘lycra’ as the fabric to use in your swimsuits?
Lycra is known worldwide for its wearability. From its freedom of movement to its comfort, fit, shape retention and low maintenance I felt that all these characteristics combined together contributes to the making of a high end quality garment.
What will set Meraki apart from the rest?
Meraki itself stands for doing something with soul, creativity and love and something where you put something of yourself into your work. Meraki will stand out from the rest as each piece is carefully constructed with thought, precision and intimacy.
