#stylistlkrecs : Top Sri Lankan Instagrammers With Style!

There’s nothing quite like falling down the rabbit-hole of social media home feeds; I just thought I’d wait for my friend and came out 20 minutes later into reality with a new found appreciation for a local restaurant on Instagram that works with one type of seafood and following about six different Facebook pages for viral videos #sorrynotsorry

Social media is an asset and tool if used wisely. Next time you’re going to choose scrolling through your Instagram feed either for business or pleasure, make sure you’re following the right kind of people and places. For instance, my sense of style and what kind of trends I should keep note of is fed greatly by the Instagrammers I follow. Here are some stylish Sri Lankans I recognize as true inspirations for the aspiring gentleman of Sri Lanka.

@ajaivsingh : The Father of Fashion

Very little in regards to the fashion industry and style take place without this man’s every word guiding the decision. Instrumental in not only mentoring the emerging designers of today and tomorrow, Mr. Ajai Vir Singh’s Instagram is a succinct summary of most updates especially from a few key menswear brands under his supervision. I especially look forward to his updates straight from the control booth at Colombo Fashion Week’s calendar of events, and you should too.

@dashveen : The Rising Star

Ashveen plays on the word ‘dashing’ which simply means stylish or fashionable only like a young man could ever be. He’s just crossed over the 200 follower mark with simple effort of consistent content featuring some great local and internet shopping brands. I personally love his styling of his daily outfits which are never the same, and even his selfies have an artistic edge that are genuine attempts at original content than copying styles from popular posts.

@i_n_d_s_._j : The Connoisseur

With over 4000 followers and counting, Indula Jayalath makes me look almost lazy with his post schedule. Featuring updates from different destinations he visits/visited, he also manages to keep us updated on the best designerwear on available from his envious wardrobe options and what might be locally available through his favourite stores. Besides being a style influence, Indula captures island life at its best and showcases the quintessential Sri Lankan experience be it food, architecture or art with class.

@ironraj : The Prince

There are many Australian men of Sri Lankan origin that are style bloggers on Instagram, but none have captured my attention as Raj. His attention to detail is legendary, he could literally be a billionaire philanthropist playboy if he is to be measured by his Instagram. With 11.2k followers, he’s the one to beat on this list on having his Instagram on point. It’s no surprise Raj is the brand ambassador for Bossini when he puts most international style icons to shame either in a suit or his favourite casual ensemble.

@dapperlk : The promise of great things

I came across this aggregator quite by chance and wouldn’t mind giving it an honorary mention as it seems to be the only one focused solely on men and menswear. It hopes to curate some of the best mens fashion and stylish men Sri Lanka has to offer, and its stringent process of selection even caught my attention even though it encouraged tags from users but never really reblogged. Chatting with its mysterious judge, jury and executioner I can only say I’m impressed and encourage you to put a follow.

Now you must be wondering why I picked these fair gentleman with no respect to their follower or following numbers. They are each uniquely stars in their own way or in the process of becoming go-to Instagrammers for Sri Lanka’s sense of style for men. Numbers are not really good measurements of quality when it comes to social media; therefore these are my personal favourites I personally prefer to follow and even in some small way influence the way I view style and Sri Lanka’s culture of fashion as it booms in the coming years.
