Fashion buyer and working mother of two, Sarah Illyas has a style best described as effortless but relatable. She defines her signature style as ‘chic’, where the core of her style persona lies within her staple pieces completed together with high fashion elements.
“I tend to experiment more with bottoms,” she says, “pants, jeans, leggings – the whole lot. I had to make use of my long legs and I feel like it really accentuates my height and the whole outfit.”
LOOK1:The Weekender
Needless to say, off shoulder tops are a staple trend and PERFECT for summer weather. I’ve paired this blush blue top with straight white pants and comfortable slip ons and it becomes the perfect outfit for a weekend brunch!
LOOK 2 : Relaxed Details
Accessories can really uplift your look if you don’t feel like “dressing up”. This neutral toned ensemble is pleasing to the eye and comfortable all day long. A sling bag and arm cuffs do the trick to hide my laziness.
LOOK 3 :Sports Chic
This look is casual beyond considered but not for Zumba or hitting the courts anymore. Sports chic is a luxed up version of being comfortable. Dressing sporty always makes me feel younger and builds pace during the day. I wore this outfit to work and threw on a pastel blazer to add a bit of edge. Bodycon dresses and pleated skirts don’t need heels anymore!
LOOK 4 :Coordinates
Let it be prints, crops or A-line skirts, coordinates always have a stand out style when paired correctly. In this look I opted to go all red (with any colour as long as it’s the same shade you can’t go wrong)and I paired my top with the same tone of culottes and wore black heels to break the colour.
LOOK 5 :Boxer Braids
Whether you're off to the gym or need a casual but polished day to night style, boxer braids are a hair style that will do it. It’s a simple French braid on two sides and works best on second day hair. A Dark Lip and Structured Glasses uplift the look and I added a sleek white shoulder blazer for a clean finish.
Style Role Model?
I wouldn’t say role model but style influences, and they range from people, places and day to day experiences in life. Unlike fashion, style is more intimate and personalised, I don’t think you can “copy” style. If it isn’t you, it will show.
Favourite Colours to Pair?
I don’t have a favourite colour so it’s generally what I’m obsessed with at the moment. Blacks and Whites are forever staples but right now it’s more neutral pastel tones- skin, rose quartz and blush blue for spring summer.
Go To Outfit?
Ripped jeans and structured white top and strappy heels/flats (I would layer it with a scarf or blazer depending on where I’m going). Classic and easy!
Style Must Haves?
Black Flared Pant
Sleeveless Blazer
Ripped Jeans
Basic Camis
Make-up Tips?
I mix moisturiser/sun block with my foundation before I apply. It lasts longer and is the base of the make-up – no- make up look because of the extra moisture.
Style Nos?
There’s no real ‘no no’ when it comes to fashion and style-because everyone has their own. But I’d say no to overdoing it. You want people to remember you, not just your clothes J
Style Tips?
Always iron/steam your clothes for sharper look.
Comfort is key!
Suits and work wear don’t have to be stuffy; add a t-shirt or graphic print to shake things up.
Cuff (fold up) your jeans when wearing heels, showing your ankles makes your legs look longer and instantly adds character to your look.
