After a little bit of soul searching and experimenting, Raya describes her style as ‘classy but trendy’. She tells us that a lot of her fashion inspiration is derived from what’s on the runway or in magazines. But does this mean she’s a fan of every new trend?
“I have to admit I don’t really leave my comfort zone a lot when it comes to clothes” she confessed, “I wouldn’t call myself edgy. I know that there are many styles and clothes I definitely can’t pull off so I like to stay within the realm of what suits me and keep it simple and classy"
So this week, she lets us in to give us a small insight on what it’s like to blend simplicity and trendy together;
LOOK 1 : Light Wash over Medium Wash
This is my outfit if I’m running errands or going out to grab some coffee. I love these jeans because they’re very comfortable and extremely versatile and as you can see – they still look good in a denim- on - denim situation. I feel like the rips in the knee area give the jeans a lot of character and make whatever I am wearing them with instantly trendier. These are my favourite pair of jeans and I just throw them on if I’m going somewhere during the day. I can choose to dress them up or down!
LOOK 2 : Dusty Rose Crop Top with a Long Black Skirt and Gladiator Sandals
This is the perfect brunch or loafing outfit! I wore this on a nice spring day in New York but it’s airy and perfect for those scorching summer days in Sri Lanka.
I think what brings this whole outfit together are the sandals I’m wearing. They’re brown gladiator sandals that can be tied up to any length along your leg (right up to your knee) depending on what you’re wearing. I tied these right above my ankle to compliment my skirt, and to keep it simple I wore a solid coloured cropped t shirt.
For accessories I paired it off with a Hermes H bracelet in white and gold in one hand and a Michael Kors Darci Pave Rose Gold watch.
LOOK 3 : A Black Sleeveless Crewneck Romper and Studded Pumps
For me this is an outfit I’d wear out at night. This romper is very clean cut and comfortable. A perfect night-time look. Since the romper is plain black, it is extremely versatile and so easy to dress up, hence why I paired it with these studded, short-heeled pumps. The romper compliments the legs and is cut open in all the right places. It’s not too exposing and not too concealing either.
Style Role Model : Either Arielle Charnas from SomethingNavy or Olivia Palermo. Arielle’s blog and Instagram are so great! I love every single one of her outfits and I get a lot of my style inspiration from her. Olivia Palermo’s blog gives me a lot of insight as to what’s in style and what I could buy when I’m feeling bored with my current clothing items. Both of these women are style icons and I feel that their style is one that really inspires me.
Favourite Colours to Pair : White and Blue or Black on Black. I definitely wear more monochromatic patterns and white goes best with my skin complexion. I have so much white in my closet! And of course, you can never have too many black clothing items.
Go To Outfit : T-shirt dresses. Always.
Style Must Have’s?
- A pair of black strappy heels - They go with everything!
- A pair of your signature sunglasses - They can MAKE your entire outfit.
- A watch for your left hand and a bracelet for your right - They can be as simple or as fancy as you want, but they complement whatever you’re wearing instantly.
- A pair of ripped/distressed jeans - you can wear them with flip flops or stilettos.
Style Tip
- Horizontal stripes are not your friend. Stray away from horizontal stripes!
- You don’t need to buy expensive things to look good. Style is about the way you present yourself and how you carry yourself and no one needs to know where you get your stuff because you can look just as good in a $10 shirt as you can in a $100 one. It’s about the way you style what you have in your closet, not about how much everything is.
