Be it a delicate blush or a bright fuschia or something in between — designers are in the pink this season. The antiquated notions of how and when to wear pink have all been thrown out this season so give your sartorial style a rosier outlook with a touch of pink, the most coveted colour of the moment.

Yes grown women can and should wear pink. It’s no longer the reserve of wannabe barbie dolls and bridesmaids. This girlish colour translates well in to the adult wardrobe.

Remember the scene in The Devil Wears Prada were Meryl Streep explains the life cycle of cerulean blue and how it filters down into your wardrobe, well pink in all its glorious shades is really coming into its “it” moment after seasons of seeing it gradually emerge on the catwalks.

The high priestess of fashion (also known as Anna Wintour) fashion bloggers (the new style-makers), stylists, celebrities and fashionistas are all wearing, writing and instagram-ing about pink in some form.

From the softest blush to bolder cerise hues, take a walk on the prettier side of fashion this season. That said, pink doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go all out girlie, you can toughen it up and make it ironic, pick a hue and go head to toe with it or just add a hint of pink through your accessories. Colombo seems to embracing the spirit of fuschia which is perfect for tropical climes and balmy heat.

Blush pink is the perfect feminine neutral to add to your wardrobe, no longer confined to the lingerie drawer this shade has made amazing inroads into mainstream clothing. With celebs, fashion instagramers and stylists moving the colour firmly into the mainstream fashion consciousness.

Elsa Schiaparelli introduced hot pink into women's wardrobes and it’s a colour that can add instant cool to any outfit, do remember though that clean lines and fuss free are key with this tone. Embellishment on fuschia can sometimes come off as overdone but on petal pink shades embellishments like sequins, beading and feathers work beautifully.

There’s a coolness, quirkiness and sophistication about pink that other colours just don’t have but if you’re a sceptic don’t want to commit to the colour, adding pink into your wardrobe through accessories will give it an instant shot of fashion forwardness.

With the myriad of shades out there, pick the ones that work best for your skin tone. Don’t do ruffles or bows or anything too girlie, if it works for a three year old it won’t work for you! Don’t go overboard with it by matching your make-up to your outfit.

Fashion icons have always loved pink, who can forget Marilyn Monroe in Diamonds are a girls best friend? Jackie Kennedy in her pink Chanel suit? Carrie Bradshaw’s poetic pink Oscar de la Renta dress in the final season of Sex and the City? When Audrey Hepburn said “Ladies I believe in pink”, she was definitely on to something.
