When asked about her signature style, she quotes Taylor Swift’s “We never go out of style” lyric. “I’m a big fan of the whole timeless look” she explains, “When I dress I am for a very classic and versatile look with a little wow factor in my look hence my ombre hair!”
This week, Gayanthi shows us a few of her timeless looks!
LOOK 1: College
This outfit is quite cool and comfortable. I paired my denim jacket from New Look with my ripped jeans from F&F. I also wore my nude pink lace up top from H&M and my Suede leather boots to complete the look. It’s a very versatile look because I can decide whether to wear my denim jacket, depending on how cold it is in class! For my makeup I have done winged eyeliner, gold shadow and my nude colour butter gloss by NYX Cosmetics.
LOOK 2: Casual
This is a bohemian-chic look which has been inspired by Vanessa Hudgens. I picked red flared pants from F&F and a printed crop top from Odel. I love little details like the zips on the trousers and the black ruffles on the crop top.
For accessories I have worn my black velvet choker from New Look and for my makeup I have paired my winged eyeliner with a reddish brown lipstick by Maybelline.
LOOK 3: Night Out
A very classy but edgy look. I am wearing a black knit bodycon dress which is comfortable but at the same time sophisticated. I don’t like to change my jewellery that often so I haven worn it with my gold chain and a Lacoste gold and white watch. It gets chilly at night so I have also worn my bomber jacket from Blue Inc. Women. I feel this is a classic statement jacket, especially when paired with my tie up black wedges from H&M. For makeup I have paired it off with a bold purple lip by Kate from the brand Rimmel.
LOOK 4: Formal
Here I am wearing a kind of vintage look. I am wearing one of my mother’s old polka dot red bodycon dresses with black lace high heels. I once again paired it off with my velvet choker. I always try to buy accessories I can pair off with so many different looks.
My makeup is gold eye shadow with a red butter gloss by NYX Cosmetics.
LOOK 5: Beach
I was going for a Tumblr vibe with this beach look but I was also going for something comfortable and colourful.
I have paired my blue long bell sleeve top and my blue colour dungarees from Cotton Collection and worn my hair in two long pigtails to complete the girly look.
Style Role Model: I feel it is pointless sticking to one person because you will end up basing your look on their style and not your own. As a blogger and avid reader I take inspiration from so many places. However if I had to narrow down my top style role models I would say Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Jeannie Mai, Adrienne Bailon, Carli Bybel , Annabelle Fleur, Sonam Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. I love Vanessa Hudgens style as she is undeniably THE Coachella Queen. But honestly, I feel Aria, Spencer, Hanna, Mona and Emily of Pretty Little Liars as well as Blair and Serena of Gossip Girl are even greater sources of style inspiration because you see so many versatile looks within one episode!
Favourite Colours to Pair: For some reason I have a weird obsession with black and white together in one outfit. Also, the combination of red and white looks beautiful to me. But most of the time I feel comfortable with neutral colours such as black, grey, white, khaki, nude pink and maybe one colourful accessory to give it a pop of colour.
Go To Outfit: Jeans and a white top. It instantly gives you that polished and effortless look!
Style Must Have’s?
- A classy bag
- Sunglasses
- Basic tees in neutral colours and matching sweaters
- Good quality pair of jeans
- My suede boots
- Simple gold necklace
- Good lingerie
Make Up Tip: Don’t be scared of a bold lip! Girls in Sri Lanka are too scared of wearing bold tips for fear that it will look “too much”. You just need confidence to pull off a bold lip and liquid eyeliner look. Also, don’t run away at the idea of a little blush and highlighter. A little goes a long way!
Style No’s: Try to wear clothes which fit your body shape. It is so important to know your body shape and what exactly flatters you. EVERYONE is capable of looking absolutely stunning if they dress to their body type. I am a firm believer of this.
Style Hacks:
- Wear clothes that are timeless
- Neutral colours will never fail you because they look good on everyone
- If you feel that your outfit is too basic then one statement jewelry or statement jacket can change the whole look
- Try to invest in statement style pieces, such as the denim jacket rather than buying whatever catches your eye
