Swim Week Colombo wrapped up day 1 at the ECT Terminal at the Colombo Port, with eight stunning collections on the ramp.
U BY UPEKSHA HAGER : Boho Bay
At her second year at ‘Swim’, Upeksha’s collection takes an understated pallet and a slightly austere silhouette. The collection spans over a variety of looks and uses, from day to night, casual to cocktail and for women of different curves.
"I am very excited to show, and am thankful for the opportunity. I’d like people to imagine themselves in them and perhaps see the understated, seamless elegance in them that allows for assuredness and comfort."
Meraki : Quintessentially Monochrome: Intense Confidence Feminised
The brand is all about doing something with soul, creativity and love; about putting something of yourself into your work. This collection is a ‘classic meets contemporary’ theme fused in lycra and summer.
"Showing at Swim Week, it’s like when dreams no longer live in your head, they become real and they walk the stage. It's like watching someone slip in to your fondest afternoon musing, zip it up and walk the ramp while you and everyone else sees the details of your thoughts unfold in lycra, pleats and ruffles."
Juxtapose
Thriving on a culture of freedom, open mindedness and creativity, Juxtapose’s co- founders Indi and Charlene introduced its first season of swimwear following imaginative colourful florals that gave the collection a clean sophisticated look.
Hot As Hell : Le Jardin de HAH
Following the guideline that ‘real is the new sexy’, Hot As Hell is a brand that presents sustainable swimwear, lingerie and beach lifestyle apparel. The collection is inspired by the origins of natural beauty with a rich colour palate and intricate prints; hand drawn and digitally printed.
"I am ecstatic to show at Swim Week Colombo! I have such a bond with Sri Lanka, with Linea Aqua, and with the team, and I have tremendous pride to be in your show. I hope that people see the beauty in the collection created locally by our talented team."
Rachel Raj : Riviera
Rachel Raj offers a range of luxury ready to wear clothing, designed and made in Sri Lanka and launched its debut Swimwear collection at Swim Week Colombo. The collection embodies the ethos of the brand; luxury, sensuality and sophistication with a touch of glamour.
"I am happy to have been given this platform to showcase the debut collection and am excited to launch Rachel Raj swim at Swim Week Colombo. I wanted to present this collection to my audience as glamorous yet functional swimwear."
CHARINI
Having launched her brand in 2009 at Colombo Fashion Week, Charini Suriyage has become an international fashion brand. As the co-founder of retail store, Zudhora, Charini presented a swimwear collection that celebrates feminine power through body con prints and bold colours.
"It’s an amazing feeling to venture into swimwear as an extension to my brand CHARINI. I’m thankful for CFW for encouraging us and providing us a full blown package that we need as a brand to manufacturing and retail swimwear locally and internationally. I’m excited about Colombo being put on the fashion map as a key destination for swimwear! I want people to see a collection of timeless international swim wear in my collection."
C.H.A.R.L.E.N.E : Aves
Keeping the style with the least amount of fuss and bother, c.h.a.r.l.e.n.e is all about being fashion forward. The collection focused on the beauty of the feathered world with the fusion of unusual bold graphics and a touch of funk.
"It’s always very exciting to showcase at Swim Week Colombo. It’s the ONLY platform in this part of the world and right at our doorstep, so it’s quite a privilege to be given the opportunity to do this annually. I think Swim Week keeps getting better as it grows and this year is by far the best concept in term of catering to the clients even after the shows. I’m just happy to have my collection finally available for people to enjoy and see the international standards of the products we have to offer."
Shivan & Narresh : DIEGO
India’s first luxury swimwear brand they are the first mainstream beachwear designers doing 100% handcrafted stitch-free surfaced beachwear along with ready to wear swimwear made all in 100% Italian fabrics and complementing resort wear. This collection draws inspiration from legendary Mexican artist Diego Rivera and his iconic works.
"We are extremely excited to showcase again at the Swim Week in Colombo. SriLanka is an interesting market that we are working on developing for our brand and it’s great to see the response from the locals towards our modern Indian approach towards this category."
