The Colombo Fashion Week calendar has expanded to include more shows like emerging designers and menswear so as editors, writers, buyers, bloggers and socialites all jostle for the best view, have we lost our sense of common courtesy? With the media furore over Blake Lively’s New York Fashion Week faux pas, here are a couple of things to take into consideration as you enjoy the shows.
DO
Enjoy fashion, as fashion is a celebration and and dress to reflect that. If you have a look from a designer that's showing, then wear it as it’s always nice to pay tribute to them.
Applaud. Everyone should applaud. The sound of no-hands clapping is just rude. Even if you didn't like it, you should applaud the effort that went into creating the show. At the finale of each section and when the designer emerges. Possibly the whole way through the finale if you like it enough.
Pay attention! You’ve come to watch the shows and enjoy the fashion so make sure you pay attention to that and not your phone.
DON’T
Push to try and get in or out because we're all in the same boat and it’s very likely that someone will get annoyed and tell you off! Elbowing people in a mad rush to get a seat is very rude as is holding 6 or 7 seats for friends by placing handbags etc. on them.
Crash a seat that is not yours, remove the nametag and place it elsewhere as that will mess up the whole seating plan and you don’t want to be asked to move.
Steal goodie bags from other people's seats. If you must, take them at the end if they're left behind. It's like stealing people's seats – ultra, ultra embarrassing when you do as people do notice!
