Anya is a firm believer of the less is more concepts and embodying that concept; she describes her style ethos as ‘simplicity’. Her closet is hence filled with solid colours, subtle tones and an abundance of tee shirts.

"I believe that style should be effortless” she says, “I tend to gravitate towards easy outfits."

LOOK 1: Saree

This is a saree that I wore for my best friend’s wedding. There were actually more events than I anticipated and ended up scrambling to find this outfit. My mother and I spent about 3 hours at Orchard Shopping Plaza in Wellawatte and lucked up with this one. I loved the gold border which gave the outfit just enough glitz without having to over accessorize. The sheer aspect of the saree also added just enough, which actually made the light saree easy to wear.

LOOK 2: Brunch

While this outfit looks like a crop with a flowy skirt, it’s actually a maxi! The back of the dress connects beautifully with a criss-cross white tie. Maxis are so easy to throw on and still end up looking elegant for a quick day outfit.

LOOK 3: Party

This is probably one of my all-time favourite outfits. I happened to run across it one day on an online boutique and couldn’t pass it up. The outfit sat in my closet for about 6 months until a day party came up at the Fountainebleau Hotel; the perfect opportunity to wear it. I dressed it up with black Givenchy slides and the small black Chanel Boy Bag seen.

LOOK 4: Casual

This outfit is definitely one of my more street style looks. I had to go to a friend’s baseball game and had just finished taking 7 finals in the last 4 days. I opted for my go to look of a cami and jeans, and threw on these thigh highs which dressed the outfit up for heading out for dinner after. Larger purses are not allowed into the stadium, so I completed the outfit with a small MCM backpack which is finished with gold studding to add just enough shine to a simple street style outfit.

LOOK 5: Travel

This past March I visited Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, before the madness of the Olympics and the cold weather. I just didn’t think it was going to be 92 Fahrenheit! This light one-piece romper definitely came in handy. I paired my favourite olive drab with this brown Louis Vuitton cross body and I absolutely love the olive and brown combo.

Style Role Model: I am undoubtedly a huge fan of stylist Monica Rose. She is a big aficionada of solid colours and steers away from layering. Most of her work can be seen on the Kardashians and young Hollywood.

Favourite Colours to Pair: Olive drab is my absolutely favourite color to pair with my deep brown skin tone.

Go To Outfit: Living in Miami, which has the same climate as Colombo, I am always keen to throw on a simple cami from Forever 21, my favourite Seven jeans, and a pair of Chuck Taylor High Tops.

Style Must Haves?

A good watch: A good watch can give any outfit just the finish it needs. I tend to wear a bigger face watch for more casual events, and a smaller face paired with my favorite bangles and bracelets for my nights out.

Makeup Tips?

Knowing what works for your face: What might be absolutely gorgeous on some of your favorite models may not be the best look for you. I have a small face with prominent features so I always go for a very simple look, winged eye liner and a deep tone on my lips.

Style Nos:

Style etiquette: I am very big on being appropriately dressed for the event. I believe that being overdressed or underdressed, completely takes away from the outfit, regardless of how beautiful it is.

Style Tip: Fashion tape, fashion tape, fashion tape! American Apparel carries the best double sided tape by Brazabra Corp. for $7. Whether it’s fixing a dropped hem, or keeping a loose strap in place, I always have my fashion tape with me.
