MILK the much loved children's shop at 44A, Horton Place where young families can spend a few hours shopping, playing and sampling the delicious wares of the health food oriented cafe has ventured into new territory by stocking the renowned clothing brand Anokhi.
Anokhi's roots lie in Jaipur, a city whose founders were enlightened patrons of the arts and crafts. Anokhi tries to maintain an open and honest relationship with its craftspersons. It helps them to work in conditions of their own choosing and commits itself to providing them with sustained work.
Hand block printing is a laborious and demandingly precise process. Natural dyes are mixed just-so, then layered in exact amounts of colour in just the right place, over and over, to transform a blank sheet of fabric into a work of colourful brilliance.
All cottons in Anokhi's range are organic, as are the vegetable dyes that create those beautiful patterns. For many years, Anokhi has also been developing products in specialised areas such as appliqué, embroidery, patchwork and bead work, which now constitute a significant part of its product range. MILK offers a diverse and colourful selection of products from Anokhi and their clothing ranges include kaftans, tunics, dresses, skirts tops, pants, and more. They also carry a children's range, stunning table and bed linens.
The Anokhi story is indeed a special story. When you wear an Anokhi garment, know that you are wearing over 4000 years of artistic knowledge and skill. An organic, hand-crafted garment that is not only beautiful but that sustains a community too.
