7 ways to combine festive colours in to your outfits
(Of course without looking too flashy!)
With Christmas just around the corner all the stores are putting out clothes that are essentially green or red or a mix of both! Christmas colours are so bright and bold that we love to wear them all year round. Be careful not to over-accessorise, otherwise you may upstage the tree!
It’s all about finding the right combination. Personally both red and green are two of my favourite colours and I love Christmas! So why not wear those lovely bright colours that will brighten up any room and your mood.
1. The Perfect Little Red Dress
I know they say every girl should have a perfect little black dress. But I believe that you can find a shade of red that will suit any skin tone. And wearing a stylish red dress is perfect for any evening party. Pair it up with simple jewellery like a pair of earrings, hand cuff or chain.
2. The Elegant Green Dress
Green is one of my all-time favourite colours. And I believe a beautiful emerald or bottle green dress is perfect for evening functions. A fun flowy dress in a lighter shade of green is perfect for the day time. It is also a colour that will suit all skin tones.
3. Wear One Article of Clothing in a Festive Colour
This works very well for casual parties and family get togethers. I always opt to wear jeans so pairing it up with bright red or green top is perfect if you love to dress in festive colours. Or you can be brave and wear green or red pants with a toned down top. Bright skirts are also lovely when paired with a simple top. And if you love prints you can wear a cute sweater with maybe a reindeer or Christmas tree! (That is something I get excited about every Christmas! Simply because if I wear it out of season I’m stared at. I probably look like a dork.)
4. Jackets and Cardigans
I know in Sri Lanka we don’t experience snow. But you can’t deny that throughout the month of December there is a cold breeze that can be very chilly. And wearing a bright coloured jacket can complete your outfit and at the same time keep you warm and cozy!
5. Scarves and Shawls
The cold weather is also an excuse to pull out those beautiful shawls and scarfs that you have been hiding in your closet. I personally believe that wearing a beautiful silk scarfs with your outfit adds a sort of elegance that no other item of clothing can. And there are so many fun ways in which you can drape your shawls!
6. Shoes and Bags
For those of us who love shoes a red pair is a must have! So why not incorporate it into our outfits this Christmas! And if you buy a clutch or bag to go with it is definitely an investment! Trust me on this. You can wear a red shoe and carry a red bag with more outfits that you think. Green may not be as popular but it works perfectly as well!
7. Jewellery
It’s there to enhance your outfit so why not wear them in the festive colours. Statement necklaces are the ‘in’ thing this season. So wear them in green and red?! Even chunky earrings go beautifully with simple outfits. One thing you may want to avoid during the season is to include both colours in the same outfit. Always mix it up with a more laid back colour like black, blue, grey, white etc. This way you can never go wrong!
