Sometimes no matter how good the brand of makeup (or how expensive!), you need a little resourcefulness to perfect that look you want. These solutions aren’t always the most conventional and will have you balking at them when you read them. But give them a chance and you just might be surprised!

Kiss Those Dark Circles Goodbye!

Have you heard of Deepica Mutyala? Well, this genius vlogger has discovered a way to effectively hide those pesky dark circles. Key word here: effectively. Concealer under your eyes usually stands out as a chalky strip against your skin but Deepica has found a way around that – red lipstick! And no, it’s not for your lips. Take a creamy orange-red lipstick (go lighter for paler skin or darker for olive complexions) and smear it under and around your eyes – start with a little and you can touch up as go. Apply your usual foundation over the lipstick for a flawless finish!

DIY Foundation

Finding foundation that matches your skin tone can be a nightmare. Instead of spending fruitless hours you can just make your own! Mix arrowroot powder with cocoa powder or cinnamon (depending on your skin tone) and voila you have your own foundation! Caution: first test on a different patch of skin to ensure you don’t have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients.

Clump-free Mascara

Mascara hardens quite easily and the resulting clumps can ruin your whole look. So instead of throwing your favourite mascara out, add a few eyedrops into the tube and mix well with the brush.

*Blush*

Turns out fake blood isn’t just for pranks and movie special effects. James Vincent, celebrity makeup artist, advises using it on the apple of your cheek for that beautiful blush. Because it’s realistic looking, the blush it adds to your skin looks natural too!

Powder Your Way to Perfect Lashes

Achieve the same look as fake eyelashes with baby powder. First apply a coat of mascara then dip a cotton bud in baby powder and run across your lashes from root to tip. Finish up by applying more mascara until all the powder is concealed.
