Lasagne is one of the Italian kitchen’s best gifts to the world and is most people’s favourite pick for lunch or dinner anywhere in the world today. This week we tried out a few lasagnes to give you some idea as to where you can run to for that perfect lasagne.

We have rated three places on a general criterion, although we checked in at six. Café on the 5th is known to serve good lasagne but were sold out by the time we checked in. The Boulevard on Queen’s Road did not have it on their menu. Urban Kitchen at Hyde Park has one priced at Rs. 800 + taxes.

The lasagne from Coco Veranda is the one we recommend on today’s edition of V Try – U Buy. While the Cricket Club serves a great one as well, we wouldn’t really recommend the one from BARS café.

Overall
We loved this lasagna and practically wiped the plate clean. The minced chicken tumbling out of the lasagne was cooked in a rich tomato sauce
and overall, the lasagna was made to perfection, with a soft dusting of grated parmesan cheese on top. Two slices of warm garlic bread accompany a portion of lasagna and it is available everyday from 7AM-12 midnight.

Variety  The restaurant serves a chicken lasagne priced the same and avegetarian version for Rs.550.
Overall We didn’t quite enjoy the beef lasagne, as we found the layers in between lacking white sauce therefore each bite was rather dry. There was no distinct flavour, however it was quite large in portion size and is accompanied by two slices of garlic bread and a small salad.

Overall
Very creamy and indulgent with a delicious, comforting flavour. It is accompanied by a tasty coleslaw salad. We decided that we would definitely come back for this lasagne.

If the restaurant has a chain of outlets, the rating here is specific to the mentioned outlet. V Try – U Buy is not a connoisseur’s report, but is designed for the common man’s benefit.

Cafe on the 5th uses pan cakes for the layers and not lasagne strips... That takes off the whole point of a lasagne...
