Pancakes galore at Triple B’s

I won’t deny it, pancakes are easily among my favourite indulgences for a weekend breakfast. And if you are like me and are more of an all-day-breakfast kind of person pancakes would be the best way forward!

From maple syrup or kitul peni and butter to savoury toppings like bacon, eggs and syrup or just simply drizzled with chocolate sauce, pancakes are just one of those wonderfully delicious and cosy treats.

But, let’s face it, when it comes to pancakes, Colombo really doesn’t have much on offer, so I was quite delighted when I came across the Triple B’s Facebook Page and found out that their speciality is... pancakes. The menu includes these delightful pancake treats ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 600.

Sabir Esufali and his wife Kimberly Adams along with the support of friends and family run Triple B’s (incidentally Triple B’s stands for Bobby’s Breakfast Bar, in memory of Kimberly’s dad, Bobby Adams.)

“Going out for breakfast is really expensive and boring,” Sabir explains adding that he and his wife felt they wanted to do something a little different while also giving people the chance to experience that Sunday outing. They only started their operation at the Good Market on March 2 this year and since then their customer base has been growing while, Sabir says that the response has been “really good.” Kimberly definitely has a love for cooking, which is reflected through the delicious pancakes and toppings that are dished out at Triple B’s.
All the options on their menu are served with two fluffy pancakes and they include Country, Tropical, 3B Surprise, Bee Minced, Stack, Chicken Bruschetta and the latest to their menu, Strawberry Delight.

I loved digging into the Country pancakes which included two eggs – sunny side up, as well as juicy grilled tomato and the most delightful grilled garlic butter mushrooms and crispy hash browns.  While the sweet 3B Surprise pancakes with caramelised banana, cinnamon sugar and syrup was absolutely delightful.

While I nibbled on my 3B Surprise, Sabir explained to me that they source all their ingredients locally, they use only free-range eggs while they also try to work in line with the Good Market and their policies. Therefore, they do not use plastic and serve their pancakes on a wooden board while their customers are given ‘good’ cutlery.

Pancakes and strawberries are pretty much a match made in heaven and it was great to see them having included the Strawberry Delight on their menu, which includes pancakes of course as well as strawberries and organic ice cream.

One of the items that seemed really popular the day I visited Triple B’s was the Chicken Bruschetta pancakes which includes grilled chicken topped with Bruschetta mix. While a hit among the kids seems to be the Stack, which has a blob of whipped butter on top of two fluffy pancakes and topped with syrup.

When I do get the chance to head to the Good Market, I’d definitely like to try out the Tropical pancakes which are served with two eggs along with grilled banana and pineapple. While the savoury Bee Minced with minced beef and egg sounds promising.

Triple B’s operates on Saturdays at the Colombo Racecourse’s Nuga Tree car park between 10am and 6pm so head that way for your pancake fix!
