Tinie Tempah to headline Electric Peacock Festival on 27th April 2013

World famous Tinie Tempah is set to play as the Electric Peacock Festival’s headliner on Saturday 27th April 2013, bringing a fresh genre artist to the island to play to audiences craving diverse music like hip hop, pop, indie, electro and soul.

“The response to our announcement has been overwhelming, with our fans bubbling over with excitement,” said Tasha Marikkar, Co-founder of the festival, “from online to offline the fans enthusiasm alone has made it clear that people consider him the biggest hip hop, contemporary artist to play our country!”

To date Tinie has achieved a great number of fetes, including: 1.3 million copies of Disc-Overy sold worldwide, 6 million single sales, 12 major awards (including two BRITS and three MOBOs), 4 No.1 singles (Pass Out, Written In The Stars, Earthquake ft Tinie, R.I.P ft Tinie). Tinie is also the first British rapper to sell over 1 million singles in the US after Written In The Stars went to No.12 in the Billboard charts. Having supported Rihanna, Coldplay and Jay-Z, Tinie announced a headline Arena tour in 2011, culminating in a sold- out shows at London’s O2 and Wembley Arena. His crowning achievement was in the summer of 2012, when he was handpicked to perform at the Closing Ceremony of the London Olympics to an audience of over 770 million viewers worldwide.

“When I do look back, I see I’ve achieved a lot but it’s kinda typical of me to want more. Everything I’ve already done, I want to do 10, 100, 1000 times over. I’m not sitting about being content and happy; I’m continuously striving for more,” Tinie reflects of his incredible achievements.

In print, Tinie was the first British rapper to feature on the cover of The Times newspaper and since then has won the prestigious GQ Best Dressed Man of the Year Poll. On screen, he has been on every major talk show from Graham Norton to Jonathan Ross as well as performed on Jools Holland and the US X-Factor.

In the last two years, Tinie has collaborated with, Wiz Khalifa, Soulja Boy, Wretch 32, Emeli Sandé, Ellie Goulding, Swedish House Mafia, Kelly Rowland, J. Cole, and, of course, Labrinth. He most recently collaborated with Rita Ora and scored his forth number 1 single. His free-to-download Happy Birthday EP, released just before Christmas, racked up hundreds of thousands of downloads in just hours.

What makes Tinie’s success even more spectacular is his global reach; a first for a British rapper, Tinie’s name is known throughout the world, with fans from New Zealand, South Africa, Japan and, crucially, America. US X-Factor, David Letterman and Jay Leno have all booked the boy from South London, while US rappers have showered praise on his lyrical skills and fans have snapped up his singles. From national to international waters, Tinie has become one of the UK’s most successful musical exports.

His second album, due later this year, is currently in progress, “The last two years have been incredible,” said Tinie. “There’s been highs, lows, and everything in-between. I’m still the same person – I’m still Patrick – but I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot. My next record will definitely reflect the next stage of my life. I want it to be better than brilliant – I want it to be the best it can be.”

Amongst the sales and success, the accolades and adoration, Tinie remains one of the most likeable pop stars you might wish to meet. Part of his success could be put down to his intelligent, witty, down to earth manner that has won him fans from Damon Albarn to Snoop Dogg, Jay-Z to Chris Martin. “I’m not trying to be a ‘cool’ rapper rocking shades and a frown. If I find something funny, I laugh, I don’t care if I look stupid,” Tinie grins. “I don’t ‘become’ Tinie, it’s not like an alter-ego thing when I stick on my shades. Tinie is Patrick and
Patrick is Tinie; what you see is what you get.”

His online stats are also incredibly impressive, with over 202 million YouTube/ Vevo views, 1.5 million Twitter followers and 3.3 million Facebook Likes to date. A festival favourite, Tinie joined Snoop Dogg on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 2010, and has since played every major national and international festival from SXSW to Coachella, Ibiza Rocks, Australia’s Big Day Out and Radio 1’s Big Weekender, where he found a new fan in the form of Prince William. Now, his fans can see him rock out in Sri Lanka at the Electric Peacock Festival 2013.

With three more artists to be announced this and next week on the festival line up, the event is shaping up to be an incredibly diverse and exciting one.

The festival organizers have revealed a number of new collaborations with new partners to introduce emerging sub-cultures in Sri Lanka including Skateboarding with PUSH Skate and Skate Sri Lanka, featuring local stars showing off their skills on a half pipe. Another first will feature local breakdancing groups battling each other for the ultimate crown. The festival are also bringing old favourites back, like their long-term art collaboration with Sri Lanka’s premier design school, Academy of Design.

The festival pioneered the first free costume tent in 2011 and in a new collaboration with Sri Lanka’s quirky socks and underwear company Friskybox, they will showcase a unique costume box installation giving away free costumes to attendees.

Though the team is very keen to encourage their festival-goers to plan their outfits in advance and ensure they try to dress up according to the theme planned for their third year. “Our theme this year is based on a famous book called ‘Where the wild things are’. We hope that all the festival goers will come dressed up in animal print or animal costumes, or just be inspired to be wild!” explained Leah Bazalgette, Co Founder of Electric Peacock.

The Directors and the team behind Electric Peacock are overflowing with excitement over the confirmation of this epic headline artist and are
encouraging people to get their tickets early in order not to miss out on what is set to be a truly mind blowing event. “Tickets are available on Anything.lk and there are some great early bird offers,” said Leah.
