Meet ‘The Unknown’, a young, new rap/rock band that is bound to be huge.

How did you start the band?

We started ‘The Unknown’ because we knew that each of us had different talents and we planned on bringing them together. We have always wanted to show everyone what we are capable of, and it doesn’t matter that we are new to this. So here we are!

What was your first gig?

Band heroes organized by the Bishops College Interact Club, the one held this year!

As a band, who are you inspired by?

As a band it would be Linkin Park and Imagine Dragons, but to Dilen it will always be Eminem.

What inspired each of you to pursue your respective talent?

Rahul – I’ve always wanted to sing in front of a crowd. At home I used to sing in the shower. I’ve sung sometimes in school. My inspiration would be the late Michael Jackson.

Dilen - Well I rap all the time. I started rapping when I was 8, I think it’s always been it me. I write my own raps all the time. I rap maybe 6 words in 2 seconds? I’ve always had that dream to get on stage and let everyone know how I feel.Eminem and Macklemore are my homies.

Kavisha- My main inspiration would be my father. I used to watch him play the guitar like a pro and I’ve always wanted to be as good as him. The guitar was the first instrument I played, and I love the way it makes me feel.

Malindu - Most of my friends say that beat boxing was a talent I was born with! I guess loving what I do makes me do it better. I’ve always loved the risks that we take on stage. It’s what makes me love these guys sitting around me.

Shalila – The reason I started playing the bass guitar was because I love that rough sound it makes. I also like to feel that vibration produced while slapping and plucking the guitar, it makes me feel energized on stage!

The risks you take on stage? What sort of risks?

Yeah, we suddenly change our plans on stage and that makes us feel more scared and excited at the same time. It also makes us feel closer to each other. We always have a group huddle before going on to perform.

Cool. Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?

We see ourselves striving hard to get to the place we want to get while also having fun! That’s the best part about our band, we never have problems. It’s just laughter all the time!
