The Style Files: Milan Fashion Week

Last night I dreamt that I was at Milan Fashion Week.

Of all the main fashion weeks (London, New York , Milan & Paris) Milan, the third stop on the fashion month marathon, has always been my favourite. Maybe it’s my love of all things Italian or the fact that they have mastered the concept of runway theatre or that it’s a culture so rich in matriarchal strength, confidence and black lace, whatever the reason it’s the one that resonates with me.

Dolce&Gabbana

Dolce and Gabbana’s offering for SS15 jumped from their previous heavily Sicilian collection to one with very Spanish overtones. Delving into the rich history of matadors and flamenco dancers. White shirts were the foundation for many of their looks and the focal point for their dramatic finale, paired with red bejeweled shorts. Spain’s signature colours red, white and black were reflected throughout the collection.

Giorgio Armani

When it comes to dresses, he’s the maestro. There’s a reason hollywood royalty are always seen on the red carpet in his gowns. Inspired by animal prints and patterns and vivid blue hues his collection featured exquisite gowns.

Prada

A lady like vibe with luxe fabrics, the finest of knits and jeweled tones and black with undone hems that didn’t look messy but conveyed the idea of it’s worn to death so you love it more than the reverse you love it so its worn to death. Assured irreverence and knee high socks!

Fendi

Shredded sweatshirts, Jodhpurs all done in grey, white and black, it was street wear meets high fashion. Sheer inserts and a sense of playfulness were what Largerfeld did beautifully with this collection.

Jil Sander

In what the house is renowned for this collection was an ode to the basics with  a few quirks thrown in. The shapes were clean and classic and the colours primary. Red, blue, white and black. Crisp white shirts and black pencil skirts were a reminder that sometimes the most simple idea is the one that works best.
