The café culture is slowly but surely catching on in Colombo but more often than not it ends up being a pretty expensive outing which leaves a dent in your wallet.

But, this doesn’t always have to be the case especially if you head to the latest hang-out spot in town, That Cafe in Colombo!

The café, which opened its door just over three weeks ago in located down W A Silva Mawatha in Wellawatte, is still in its infancy in terms of it being up and running but they are still able to cater to your needs.

 

 

They have a wide range of sandwiches, pastas, pizzas as well as an interesting array of beverages from hot and cold coffees to refreshing juices and mocktails.

What I liked about the place is that it was casual and laid back with soft country music playing in the background and soothing brown interior it is an ideal hang-out spot for the entire family.

They also have Wifi, which allows you to get on your laptop and surf the net while indulging in a delicious cold coffee and sandwich.

They have a number of thin crust pizzas on the menu. I tried out their BBQ Chicken Pizza. It isn’t your traditional Italian pizza but it was tasty. It comes with chicken, corn, capsicum and lots of cheese.

 

They also do a fabulous club sandwich with crispy fresh vegetables, meat and French fries and the best part is that it is made with their very own freshly made bread.

 
If you are in the mood for something hearty though, I’d definitely recommend their Mixed Sizzling Platter with seafood and sausages, hidden among vegetables, and topped with an egg and a delicious sauce – it is a meal in itself.

Even though they serve some delicious meals, I feel that it is their drinks, which are top-notch. They use Caffe Molinari for their coffees and serve up a good Latte, which comes with some yummy home-made cookies.

They also have a range of delicious cold coffees like the That Café Cookie Crunch. It is like a dessert in a cup, with chocolate sauce, ice cream, whipped cream and of course their very own home-made cookies and then topped with a cherry. It is so rich, that you need to savour it slowly.

 

 

Their very own, That Coffee Shake, made with a shot of espresso, vanilla ice cream and milk is also quite delicious. But if you’d like something lighter and refreshing  though, you must try out the Green Mint Mojito – it is a mojito made with soda, lime wedges and mint leave this non alcoholic beverage is sure to cool you down on a balmy afternoon.

 

That Cafe in Colombo located at 30, Ground Floor, Green Palace, W A Silva Mawatha, Colombo 6. They are open right through the week from 8am to 9.30pm and until 10.30pm during the weekends.
