She's had a slow and steady rise in the industry, but Jacqueline Fernandez is in a happy place now. For one, the actress has bagged films with top actors such as Salman Khan, Arjun Rampal and Ranbir Kapoor, and has also earned the title of the new item girl after shaking a leg with Prabhu Deva in 'Ramaiya Vastavaiya'.
With projects lined up back-to-back, Jackie (as she is fondly called) is on a roll. Work might be hectic, but there's an upside. "I've gotten better at time management," she points out. “I stay put in my room after an outdoor shoot in another city or country. I need my 'me-time' all the more now."
The constant shoot schedule delays aren't helping her. First, it was Salman's visa trouble and now, director-producer Sajid Nadiadwala's back injury that has thrown her film 'Kick' off the track.
The actress admits that there have been a few hiccups. "The film may end up getting delayed by a month or two, but what matters is that we bring out a good film by the end of it. Neither Salman nor Sajid have purposely delayed the film, so I don't think we have reason to worry," says the actress who has had to put on weight for Kick.
"Salman just wants his heroine in the film to look healthy and curvy . Honestly, I've never been obsessed with my weight. Adopting a certain look for the character in a film is one thing but I do not follow the size zero trend. I'd rather eat healthy and work out religiously to look fit," she says while admitting that she had lost a lot of weight during 'Race 2'.
We couldn't resist asking her about her equation with ex-beau Sajid Khan at the mention of Nadiadwala. Does she see herself being friends with him still, much like her contemporaries Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor? "I am glad that people from our fraternity are setting new examples of maturity. But I'd rather not comment on my status quo with Sajid," she says sheepishly.
We point out the similarities between Jackice and Katrina Kaif 's career graph. Right from dating reputed names at the onset of their careers to their foreign origins and struggle to make a mark in the film industry, the two actresses have a lot in common.
However, while Katrina continues to give a large credit of her success to her mentor and former beau Salman Khan, Jackie prefers to not talk about Sajid Khan casting her in his films.
She says, “I can relate to Katrina. She came from London and I came from Sri Lanka to an industry where we had no roots. Both of us had to learn the language and go through our share of ups and downs before making a name for ourselves. Survival in this industry without any backing is a tough task," says Jackie.
